Has anyone used the Wasabi BP-DC12 replacement batteries available from Amazon in their CL? My experience with them in the past has been good in other cameras, and they're sure a heck of a lot less expensive than the OEM Leica battery.

The CL is getting a reasonable number of exposures per charge given the small battery capacity. But the capacity is a bit low, so I figure having a few extras on hand might be a good thing. I have two OEM batteries, don't really feel like paying another $200 to get two more if I can get away with a less expensive alternative. :)

thanks in advance.

I use them and I've had good luck with them thus far. I also used Wasabi batteries in my Fuji x-pro1 and x-pro2 without issue. Definitely worth the price considering the cost of OEM

Not specifically Wasabi, but I have an over-the-top collection of Leica, Panasonic, Jupio and no-brand batteries, and all work the same and equally well. I can think of no reason to pay Leica prices.

The reason for this is that I had four or five for holiday use for my GX8 anyway - Heavy camera use, and uncertain charging facilities where I go, and my CL came with a spare from the shop. Then a travel charger came with a battery too. :(

BTW, the advantage of Jupio is that they have an excellent European (Dutch, actually) quality control and customer service.

I had a couple of wasabi batteries for a sony nex7 camera. They worked well for a year or so, but expanded significantly (and relatively quickly) as they wore out. I retired both after about 18 months, IIRC. The original Sony battery was still working fine after four years when I sold the camera.

I believe other have had a better experience, but for me, I'd choose a different aftermarket battery.

I have two Panasonic batteries in mint condition for my Lumix GH1K camera.

Is it possible to use them in my CL?

I am going to say no. It looks like a different battery. I doubt it would even fit into the battery compartment.

The Panasonic Lumix battery DMW-BLC12 appears to be identical to the Leica BP-DC12 having the same dimensions, contacts and specifications. Both are manufactured by Panasonic Energy (Wuxi) Co.Ltd in China. If you prefer to use non generic batteries the Panasonics are cheaper than Leicas but still much more expensive than the generics.

Thanks, good information. I've got the Wasabi batteries coming and I'll see how they perform, and for how long. At effectively $12 apiece, I don't particularly mind if they only last a year considering that the Leica spare I got with the camera was valued at $95. (I didn't pay for it; I wangled the dealer into giving me a spare battery and the half case instead of the M Adapter L that I already had on Leica's gracious freebie offer. :))

Many thanks ayewing, in two weeks I will fly to Italy and Deutschland. There I will buy the spare battery and, If I can find it, a Leica case and a zoom for my new CL. I bought the camera in Manhattan last month, buy I can´t find there neither the case nor the zoom.

I'm curious to know the use scenarios others have when they run out of CL battery power. I have always relied on two batteries for the M9, M240, SL, TL2 and now CL, and only once* have I needed a second battery change; otherwise with none of them have I found two batteries inadequate, but I've always needed a spare.

This is the first time, however, that I have gone travelling with the CL rather than the M240. I'm visiting Rencontre d'Arles for a week, and have carried the CL and 18-56 wherever I went. Up to now, although the camera has been on continuously, I've concentrated on the exhibitions, so the camera hasn't been intensively used, but it will be tomorrow when I plan to focus on shooting around the streets

*with the SL, for an intensive day of continuous use, morning to evening, at the British dance championships, when I managed to charge a battery up during the day
