Neil, thank you for very nice images. Could you please comment on the dust and digital back, any issues with that?

As you may well know the southern and central serengeti is extremely dusty at this time of year, both cameras held up beautifully with me only cleaning the H6D sensor one time with a few small dust spots. I only changed the lens on the H6D one time and that was in the middle of the Mara  River crossing from 300mm to 50mm. I changed lenses on the S quite a few times from HC150mm to HC50mm II, I did not see any significant dust on the S at all. The S did freeze that needed a battery pull on quite a few occasions while shooting out of sleep mode maybe due to the S to H adapter (Pull battery and 2 seconds later shooting without further a to do.......The H6D performed flawlessly but needed 1 1/2 batteries a day compared to 1/2 a S battery

All in all a great combination that I would take again on a similar trip but maybe leave the HC50mm II at home and replace it with the HC100mm f2.2 as on the H6D its just to wide for the kind of photography that  like

Great, thanks. Is this your first or second safari with S and Hassy?

Hey,

I don't read Chinese however i can read S3 on that page ;)

https://www.leica-camera.cn/photography/leica-s-series

To the extent that Google understands Chinese...:

"The outstanding performance of the Leica S3 system is a well-thought-out result. All of its individual components are precisely matched to achieve a harmonious interaction, creating a unique Leica feel. The Leica S3 worked closely with professional photographers during development, professionally meeting their specific needs with its superior image quality and flexibility, as well as simple operation and robustness."

And - for the sake of completeness, for the S007 (from Google, again):

"With its outstanding technology and exquisite ergonomics, the Leica S can handle any photographic challenge – whether it's in the outside or in the studio. The outstanding performance of the Leica S lens with a focal length of 24 to 180 mm (most of which can be adjusted according to the central shutter requirement) contributed to this."

Not too much to learn here, besides a S3 body seemingly identical to the S007 - as the rumours have stated for quite some time.

And from leicarumors: https://leicarumors.com/2018/09/24/the-new-leica-s3-medium-format-camera-leaked-online.aspx/

I would guess they will keep S007 in the line. S007 at 15~20k 37.5M and S3 at 28K 64M seems a reasonable line up.

It seems I have made an accurate prediction and my expectation is also seems reasonable:)

This is a good news for Leica S users that they have a stable platform for foreseeable future. As strong competition as FUJI and Hassy, S is still the most versatile and enjoyable system to use, IMHO.

As someone who earns money in a currency that has "dropped like rocks" versus the Euro and Dollar, unfortunately no amount of used discounting can now create a business case for the S system.

The South Pacific Peso :-)

I so miss those days of parity with the US dollar when I bought most of my Leica system...

The 100MP with IBIS from Fuji is interesting. One day we may see smart S to GFX adapters the way there are already Contax 645 to GFX adapters. It will also be interesting to see if S to L-Mount adapters work on the Sigma and Panasonic cameras.

Nice images, hard to judge at this size but I have no doubt it will be impressive viewing full resolution.

Actually, based on AlanD's link, you will see that FUJI has about same low light performance as IQ3100. I noticed that a few days ago during discuss in Fredmirand forum compare FUJI and X1D, Pentax 645Z, same sensor but different low light performance. It is quite amazing consider price difference.

However, l personally don't really care low ISO low light performance, that is not the territory for my MF usage. (If so, I might consider FUJI first. ) With enough light at base ISO, even S006 files are gorgeous.  Both DR and Resolution are nice to have but only part of consideration (after they are good enough) for my purchase decision.

I have no doubt S3 will be in another level in term of IQ just like 100M 54X40 now and 44X33 sensor in the future. I am happy for those want pixel and can afford it.

GFX100s is butt ugly piece of machine. But it has IBIS, and the 16bit BSI 100mp and full Capture One support... and cost 10k USD. I can ignore the butt ugliness of it if it comes to my wallet. Hahahaha.

The new zoom lens announce is quite exciting, 45-100 and 100-200 both of which will be very good judging from Fuji's 32-64 zoom lens performance.

full frame Sigma Foveon sensor with L mount... that's my holy grail. Nothing beats the color from a true-ish RGB sensor...
