Glasgow - Leica M2, 35mm Summaron F2.8, Kodak Portra

I used to have a Leica M9. I loved the colours it produced, plus I could use my Leica lenses on it. I sometimes miss having a colour digital Leica, but lately I've been using Kodak Portra 400 in my M2. I get it developed at £3 a roll on the high street, and scan it myself. The great thing about film, well Portra 400 at any rate, is that you simply scan it, and you're done. No tweaking of contrast, or levels, no blown highlights. No dodging or burning.

I scanned this shot yesterday, from a film I shot a couple of months ago. I've tried to emulate the film look with digital files, but I just can't get this sort of look from anything but film.

It costs about $15 per roll near me to have color film developed.  One reason I go with B&W and develop at home.  Your photo makes me wish I had some cheaper color film developing options.

Leica M-A

50'APO

Tri-X in D76

Knightsbridge, London

Nice capture.  Between the APO and Tri-X it's one sharp photo.  What kind of scanner, and did you do much post processing?

It is Epson V850, and I am used to editing minor settings in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.

In my opinion, Epson V850 is the most balanced scanner. Even though I could afford a virtual drum scanner, for instance, Hasselblad X5, there was no need to waste all of my time for the sake of slightly better results. Someone using the virtual drum scanner may prove my thoughts. You can find further information here and here.

Just got an M3 that was manufactured same year that I was, 1955.

First photo I usually make with a new camera is a selfie.

50 Lux / Tri-X / f/11 / 1/500 (sunny 16 rule +1.5 for high clouds)

Developed at the local lab, I think they used D76

Digitized on light table with Macro-Elmarit-R on SL

Inverted in Photoshop

White and black points in Lightroom
