I checked for a firmware update and found one today after the lens arrived. Downloaded, installed and all is good. Yes, the S System is heavy. The SL is so much better for versatility. Overall I I like the SL the best but still need the file quality from the S for pro work. Between the 16-35mm and the 24-90mm I have all I really need in the SL System other than a tilt shift lens at 24mm. I think it's very possible in the future to see a 24mm come about.

Where did you find your download for 3.2.

Thanks.

I went to the owner's area on the Leica website https://us.leica-camera.com/Members-Area The lens came with a sticker on the rear cap to be sure I had an updated firmware so I went to the the website. The update went quickly but be sure you have a fully charged battery.

That is still Firmware 3.1, not the new 3.2. While the lens should work even with older Firmware, I would NOT do any critical work or any serious lens testing with older FW. Lens-specific colour profiles and corrections will NOT be present on older FW, and therefore you might get results that don't correspond to what the camera + lens can really do. The new FW should be out very soon now, so my suggestion is that it's worth waiting a tiny bit more :)

Best regards,

The Canon 24mm works very very well with the Novoflex adaptor.

Thanks for checking that and the advice. I'm a little surprised Leica released the lens without the newest firmware available. Hopefully it's coming very soon. I use my S System for most of my professional work so I'll stay with that for now.

I bought a Novoflex adapter for my Nikon 24mm TS and it works well too. For now it works as a solution but I wonder if the Canon glass will be a better option to get or just wait until Leica comes out with their own TS lens. It will probably be a while though.

I haven't used the new Nikon PC lenses. They're supposed to be very good. I don't think there would be much real world difference. I was extremely lucky with my Canon 24mm T/S. It popped up on eBay at a very good price and in new condition, so I jumped.

I'm sure there must be quite scary R&D costs in the development of a T/S lens but I'm still surprised that Leica never made a wide on for the S. Surely there's a market for architectural photographers that they've missed out on and the S would be a spectacular platform for that. And surely they can't ignore how many reports there are on these forums of SL users adapting Canikon TS lenses. A 17/19mm and 24mm that are as good as the SL primes would sell a lot of photographers into the SL system.

Landscape photographers would too but Leica has clearly demonstrated they don't care to truely cater for landscape photographers with their firmware choices for the M, S and SL.

Also, 3.1 firmware works fine on the 16-35mm SL and does cause any "brick" issues. If anyone gets a 16-35mm,  no need to wait  for 3.2 to try out the lens.  The SL just doesn't display the f stop in the data when viewing in LR etc. I confirmed this with Leica and tested it myself with a new 16-35 SL.

The warning about updating comes on all new lenses.    3.2 is certainly best when released, but not necessary to use the new zoom.

You can sure try out the lens, but I would strongly discourage to use it for critical work or testing. Old Firmwares do not have colour profiles and lens profiles, thus impacting on the potential performance of the lens. Best regards,

Would you mind posting a link to a 16-35 DNG file shot at 16 mm focal length using firmware 3.1? Or to several shot at different focal lengths?  I won't have my 16-35 until my shop has enough to reach my place in line, but I can tell you what is correct and what is missing in your metadata when you use 3.1.  (Although I hope and expect you will have 3.2 very soon, like this coming week.)

thanks,

scott

Rather odd that N America seems to have the lens before most of Europe (apart from Vieri there appears to be no-one on this or the German forum posting about receiving it) .....

Looks like either Leica has tried to synchronise release by shipping earlier to N America .... and the units have arrived quicker than expected .... or the FW delays have kept back European distribution after the N.Am batch were sent.

For once the shoe is on the other foot ...... with our N American cousins getting first dibs ....  ;)

From David Farkas:

"As far as additional compatibility, firmware 3.2 will fully support the new SF60 flash and SFC1 wireless flash controller. And, if you’re wondering why the new 16-35mm SL lens isn’t on the list of updates, don’t worry. Support was actually added, quietly, in the last firmware update v3.1."

Rumours are that the support of this lens has been added (in silence) to the 3.1 release.

So maybe you are waiting for the 3.2 improvement, that is not really existing.

Did you try it with 3.1 before 3.2 and did you find any differences (for the 16-35) ?

My information from Leica Store SG revealed no shipment yet received in Asia Pacific yet except demo units.
