w44neg Posted April 5, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 5, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm weighing up buying some filters for my 240 due to an impending trip. Generally, I incorporate CPL and ND filters into my photography with my other cameras, but obviously the 240 would only allow this using Live View. As I have an EVF-2 for it though, I guess it's still very possible to use filters. Do you use them and if so, do you find they integrate well with this system? Soden Posted April 6, 2017 Share #2 Posted April 6, 2017 Sorry but the camera has a self destruct feature, if it detects filters.... just kidding. If your using the EVF it works just like any EVF camera. If your using OVF then things are a little strange for CPL or LPLs. To adjust you need the Leica swing out filter or the kenko rangefinder filter system. I have and use both. Oh, linear or circular, it doesn't matter

ECohen Posted April 6, 2017 Share #4 Posted April 6, 2017 Not too much.... sometimes close up lenses, ND's 0.9 for shooting wide open, 10 stop ND for fun and the occasionally a polarizer. For me LR, PS and a tripod has changed the need for lots of filters ......I try to keep things simple these days. Do on the Leica what you do on your other cameras ...Why change what your used to? Echo63 Posted April 6, 2017 Share #5 Posted April 6, 2017 I don't use filters often, but when i do its either a ND, or a CPL I am typically working on a tripod when i do, so i just use live view on the rear LCD to adjust the CPL. ND filters are great to use on the M, the non-TTL focusing means nothing changes, except less light gets to the lens.
sblutter Posted April 6, 2017 Share #6 Posted April 6, 2017 I always have a CPL and 2 ND's (4 & 8) in the bag. Never know. For B&W, PS has tools
stephengv Posted April 7, 2017 Share #7 Posted April 7, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) CPL and ND Ring filters and Lee Seven5 Deluxe kit. Yup you need to use your Live View or EVF to use filters.
asiafish Posted April 8, 2017 Share #8 Posted April 8, 2017 ND, quite often.
Mark Pope Posted April 9, 2017 Share #9 Posted April 9, 2017 The filter that gets the most use on the 240 is a polariser. I have a 67-49mm adaptor and step down rings so I can use a single polariser with all of my lenses. I also use ND filters from time to time, especially when using the Nokton f1.1. I do have a set of Lee filters as well, but these haven't used the on the 240 yet.
jmahto Posted April 9, 2017 Share #10 Posted April 9, 2017 I only use 10 stop ND filter for streams/waterfalls. I don't use other kinds since everything else can be handled in PP. Long time ago I used clear UV filter but after few flares stopped using it. I do carry it though and it goes on the lens only when it is wet or raining (I can then clean water drops easily.) jmahto Posted April 10, 2017 Share #12 Posted April 10, 2017 You cant PP a polariser either.... OK, I will agree somewhat but not fully. Saturating sky can be done in PP but not the reflection/glare control.
Enbee Posted April 10, 2017 Share #13 Posted April 10, 2017 I use the ND quite a bit. It's very helpful during afternoon shoots and also useful for freezing waters when needed. I have UVs on all my lenses and use a polarizer for landscape shots at times. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
lct Posted April 10, 2017 Share #14 Posted April 10, 2017 I always use IR-cut filers when i need accurate colours on the M240. It is not as prone to IR contamination as my M8.2 but some black fabrics are still too reddish on it. I have the same problem with my Kolari mod Sony A7s BTW. Thin sensor stacks must be the culprits i guess. Would be interesting to check if the M10 has improved in this respect.
