Jeff S Posted December 1, 2018 Share #641 Posted December 1, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good questions; maybe someone here has better information. I was told by a Leica rep about the turmoil following the black M8.2. Could be Leica Camera didn’t get proper advance authorization, but I don’t know. There’s a reason Leica won’t just issue black dots like third party vendors. Jeff

wolfloid Posted December 4, 2018 Share #642 Posted December 4, 2018 I'd like to see: same size immediate start up as quiet as the M10P saphire screen that flips up! much better external EVF that works fluently 8000 top speed 36mp an ISO dial which has a locking toggle button like all other mabufacturers use, not one you need to lift dump the removable base plate Lighter top and bottom plates (aluminium? Magnesium? Titanium?)

tobey bilek Posted December 17, 2018 Share #645 Posted December 17, 2018 Do not crap it up with video and other "features" . Leica M is supposed to be a nice simple camera. Want features, buy some DSLR.
pico Posted December 17, 2018 Share #646 Posted December 17, 2018 It would be very helpful if through the OVF we could see only the frame for the mounted lens to reduce clutter.

Good idea Jac. The frame lines could be referenced from the 6 bit code. For non-coded lenses, the original mount tab would be the fall back for framelines. Another reason to use 6 bit coded lenses. Besides conservatism, are there technical reasons? Frame lines are presented in today's viewfinder just as they have been since the M3 by casting light through mechanically selected masks, the only difference today is than an LED illuminates the frame instead of ambient light focused upon the frames. I am not smart enough to engineer an alternative, but I suspect several members here are. Edited December 17, 2018 by pico

Jeff S Posted December 17, 2018 Share #655 Posted December 17, 2018 BTW, Leica has been known to customize certain M models to show a limited number of frame lines, even while using mechanical masks. Jeff

wlaidlaw Posted December 18, 2018 Share #659 Posted December 18, 2018 I know that the frame lines are currently generated by shining an LED through a mask, but do they need to be? Is there not a way to generate the masks with a separate OLED panel, whose view is combined with the optical view from the two windows (VF and RF)? I think Fuji does something like this on one of their cameras. You could then add a switchable option to show additional information. Wilson
LocalHero1953 Posted December 18, 2018 Share #660 Posted December 18, 2018 (edited) Leica has shown that it is willing to have at least two parallel versions of the M at a time. There is scope for a M11-D from the outset for the conservatives out there: baseplate, brass top plate, 'rewind' ISO dial, 'wind-on' thumb lever, no rear screen, no video, paired mechanical frame lines. The M11-FM* would have no baseplate, alloy top plate, video, ergonomic ISO dial, rear screen, single LED framelines, true silent/electronic shutter, possibly even an EVF instead of the OVF/RF, though I doubt this will ever happen. * Full Monty edition (or the WNY** edition for the US market) ** Whole Nine Yards Edited December 18, 2018 by LocalHero1953
