farnz Posted January 22, 2018 Author Share #3668 Posted January 22, 2018 non-Leica lens. sorry Raid, the Forum's rules are that posted photos must have been taken with a Leica camera or Leica lens (or both) so pictures from a non-Leica lens are fine providing it was a Leica camera. Raid Amin Posted January 22, 2018 Share #3669 Posted January 22, 2018 Thank you, Rob. This old Sonnar lens is very sharp and it renders scenes very natural looking.

Raid Amin Posted January 23, 2018 Share #3676 Posted January 23, 2018 Beautiful colors Raid! Thank you. The digital Leica M delivers great color. The old glass is lower contrast, which allows better PP.
james.liam Posted January 23, 2018 Share #3677 Posted January 23, 2018 That 45/2 is purportedly one of the sharpest 'normal' lenses made in the past 40 years. Has that been your experience, Raid?
Raid Amin Posted January 23, 2018 Share #3678 Posted January 23, 2018 That 45/2 is purportedly one of the sharpest 'normal' lenses made in the past 40 years. Has that been your experience, Raid? I am a statistics professor, but I do not have such a "statistic"! I know that this lens is very good overall. I have one in G mount and one in M mount. Someone sold it after converting it professionally to Leica M mount. It has all the known Zeiss signs of excellence.

Ronazle Posted January 26, 2018 Share #3680 Posted January 26, 2018 I took this yesterday, its not a particularly meritorious photo, but it does show just how sharp an "old glass" lens is. The lens is a collapsible 50mm Voigtlander Heliar in a screw mount; the shot is wide open (F:/3.5!) with rfdr focus on the nearer insulators of the tower. The file is less than 300Kb.
