Agh, Bart, I've been trying to resist the Pentax 43/1.9 for many years and your pictures aren't helping. :D   (Please don't stop posing them though! :))

Pete.

OK  :)

It's a fun lens to use, Pete and an easy focal length.

A couple more.

Bart and Pete,

could you explain what is special about this Pentax 43mm lens?

A really good example of how some mad bugger can persuade an entire population that his absurd notion is the best thing to do. If only there was some record of how he went about it.

So ture, even today you see the same thing happening in North Korea and the EU.

This Pentax 43mm lens is the only pentax branded M adapted lens ever made for Leica (max 2000).

For examples have a look at Flickr here

The 43mm itself is one of three "limited" lenses (31/43/77 mm) Pentax mount and is known as a lens with a "special" 3D-rendering, sometimes bad flares. More details here

My picture examples with the Pentax K1 are here (german Pentax Forum )

The "special" in the name refers to the limited nature of the lens. Indeed the only one Pentax ever built in m39 mount. Or M mount for that matter. And in limited numbers.

The lens in Pentax K mount is really well liked. It's a pancake lens.

In the m39 mount it is not obviously. The build is longer to correct for the flange distance between the Pentas SLR and the rangefinders.

The 43mm focal length is supposed to be the "perfect normal". The theory is that this is because 43mm is the diagonal length of the 136 format.

Whatever the reasoning, I really like the field of view this 43mm offers.

As for the rendering, I like it as well.

Nothing wrong with the build and tactical feel of the lens either. Quite Takumar like.

Some nostalgia involved for me as well. I 'grew up" with a Pentax SP500 and a Takumar 50mm f/1.4  :)
