I recently got an MP and wondering if I can leave the shutter to the correct speed all the time. I know that the meter turns off after ~15 sec of pressing the shutter button but is it still drawing power?

Just turn the speed to Bulb. If you don't and use a camera bag, you will drain your battery on accident.

I will not drain power, when the shutter button is not touched. Unfortunately, when the MP is in a bag, the shutterbutton will be touched. So I put it to Bulk in the bag, but leave it on 60/125/250 when I put it on a shelf.

That is why it is called B/Off

Yes , with the MP it came a habit to write the "B"  with " B/off " To my knowlegde, the M6 still had the " B" without " Off " because all M6 photographers once in a lifetime made the mistake of draining the camera, not putting it on " B"   in the bag, Leica made life easier with the M6TTL:

With the introduction of the M6TTl the " B' and the " off " were separated m, next to each-other ( bigger dial ) , but with the reinvention of the M6 in the body of the MP the " B" and " off " had no space so it became " B/off " on the same " click " .

I never liked the " too much info " B/off " so I think I blocked it out of my memory.

If the shutter isn’t cocked (so you don’t accidentally take a photo of the inside of your bag) then the meter is off anyway, but turning the dial to B / Off guarantees the meter is totally off and not even taking a trickle charge. If you are leaving the camera unused for a month or more it’s best to take out the battery.

Just joined the club with a fresh black paint MP! The folks at my Leica store gifted me with a wooden Leica train whistle also, saying (in jest, of course) that this was reserved only for the film M buyer. SL2 and Q2 buyers are out of luck :)

Welcome to the forum!

I never understood, or believed that sentence. I have been using Leica M6 -MP for a few decades now and never had issues with leave the battery in, for sometimes two years. Even when the battery was completely drained I never saw any problem.

On the other hand, why should you not use a freshly new MP not for a month?
