Same rather old (but excellent) sensor with upgraded processor, EVF and Rear Screen. Still essentially a 'static' camera though, but with some nicely implemented features.

I'd be tempted, but with virtually the same resolution on the S1R, IBIS and the ability to use existing SL zooms to their full capabilities, the Lumix rather rules it out for now.

At this level I'm not sure I could justify all the upheaval and added expense of a complete system change for marginal gains in image quality.

True, I wasn't all that invested in the SL system when I swapped to the X1D. I had the 24-90, 75, and M lenses. I miss the versalitity of the excellent zoom, but I prefer a smaller system. May go back to a 47MP SL2 if Leica delivers on their wide primes.

I have loved the SL and still do. I kept it for use with M lenses and the long and short zoom. Will wait and see what the SL2 looks like and then decide if I want it or simply keep the current SL, or get the Panasonic

Exactly.

This week is the last days of a discount at US sellers on the Lumix which will let me deaccession an unused Olympus E-M5.2 and end up with an S1R for about $3000.  I'll consider it a lab test unit and spend half a year playing with various L and M lenses (notice that Overgaard only used an R Summilux 80 for his reviews), see how it works at the edges with M wideangles.  At the year end, which is the soonest that I could come to the head of the line for an SL2, I should be able to get almost all of the money back if I really want to...  See ya later.

edit:  I got the discount for submitting a trade-in at the last moment (the offer expired on Saturday evening, but this is B&H, and they close at 2 pm on Friday...)  I wouldn't be surprised to see the offer reappear.  But I won't have the trade-in balance to use until they inspect the submitted  camera and accessories.  The process is complicated, and hard to speed up.  I spent an hour or so on the phone to get the tradein credit applied to an order in process.

The SL is an awesome camera. After many great moments today I have a tinge of sadness, as mine sold yesterday via ebay.

I have throughly enjoyed the X1D. For my use case it replaced the M10 as my walkaround and travel camera. I don't think it can replace the SL unless you have a specific use case - the SL system is much more versatile.

I have now "rationalised" to: X1D for most travel, S1R as an SLR replacement and for photocentric travel, M Monochrom and MA when the mood takes me, Ricoh GRII as a pocket camera. If Sigma gives us an L Mount 500mm lens the the L Mount really does become an SLR replacement.

I am also going to sell my Leica CL kit. As small and lovely as it is, I find not being able to separate focus from shutter an unforgivable oversight (can't believe it is not yet corrected by firmware) and I often find the IQ from APS-C sensor too much of a compromise, so the system is not getting much use. That said, quality is excellent for the size, but that is where the X1D really shines... the best IQ of any camera system I have owned and yet so compact.

I would be interested to know what lenses you use with the X1D for most travel.

I normally take the 21, 30, 45 and 90 in a big bag but only walk around with one or two. The diminutive 45 is my most used. I love the 30 as well.

That said, I can fit the 21 or 30 + 90 +  body with 45 attached into a Peak Design 5L sling.

Are you getting the zoom? Really looking forward to getting mine.

It just might prompt me to buy the X1Dii...if the handling and results match the marketing.

I'd be getting the zoom if it were a bit wider like the Fuji 32-64.

35-75 doesn't really excite me because it won't gap as nicely with 2 of my favorite lenses, the 21 and 80.

I think I'll stay with the primes.

Definitely. Did you order through CRK?

Yep. I'd emailed them within about 15 minutes of the announcement and left a deposit the next day. Wasn't even on the CRK website yet. :)

Apparently I'm first on the list. I REALLY hope it arrives on time (HB's not known for that) as I'd love to take it on a trip I have in early November. 1st world problems..... haha.

Exactly the reason that I went out of the CL-system after half a year (or so) use. A big and unnecessary mistake, in my view.

"Separate focus from shutter": Would you mind to elaborate?

The inability of having a different button to initiate auto-focus, leaving the shutter button to just activate the shutter. As it is, in AF mode every time you press the shutter button on the CL the camera initiate auto-focus. While this is fine for many, there are also many photographers (me included) that are very much used to work with a separate "AF-start" and shutter button.

Hope this helps, best regards

I hadn't even thought about that on the CL, although I do use it on my S1R and SL. It just didn't seem necessary *to me* on my walk around cameras but now you've both mentioned it, it is an oversight.

Are you going to look at another small camera system? What's the smallest system that has this? Fuji X, I suppose.

I'm also looking to rationalise (I find it hard to let go...) X1D for IQ, S1R/SL for work and some travel, Nikon Z7 as my compact kit and a CL as my walk around. Unfortunately it's my M gear that's getting the least use so I'll shrink that to a camera and a lens or three. My whole Sony system will go with no regrets.

Presently I use S(006) and SL/S1R for almost all photography, and Nikon D850/D5 with long lenses (300mm f4 PF and 400mm f2. 8E with extenders) for action/wildlife. And I love M8 for ir... No small system for me after the CL, and no plan to enter a small system either. Too many compromises. Looking forward, I wait for long lenses from Panasonic and/or Sigma. If af is acceptable (possibly with the next iteration of S1/S1R?), Nikon will go. And I wait for Sigma Foveon ff... In a preferred world, I would love to base most of the gear around the L-mount; the L-primes, in particular, are fantastic.
