I don't think so. Unless it's a very windy day, you don't get the clouds to move with 60 sec. The sky is often key in a landscape or fine art image. It's no rare that during the day you can get up to 8 minutes with a 16 stop ND at base iso to get the clouds streaking. Past 8 minutes you start loosing the effect and as it flattens out. For the water you can get away even with 30 sec.

OK. I agree about clouds (needing minutes) and for some it may be important enough. Personally I don't like cloud streaks since it gives an impression of fast moving clouds (like water in waterfall, streams etc.). As others have noted here too, IMHO photoshop is more effective tools of choice for creative effects.

Well, it's not to my taste, but I can see why others would like it.

You can't please everyone!

What shutter speed did you use?

It's a combination of two exposures, a regular one for the sharp part of the image and a long exposure for the sky and the water

From where I stand, in my own personal ivory tower, I'm very glad Leica don't encourage these long-exposure "get rid of the reality" photos.

The best thing about photography is we all have our opinions what looks good and what does not. Encourage? No, they certainly don't as this feature is kinda missing in many of their (Leica) cameras. I think It is simply a standard feature (bulb mode) of a modern digital camera. However you will use it is everyone's own business. :)

This is what I like to do, it won several awards

BUT, you don't have to like it of course

Lovely!

Well, he says "will likely be announced" at this year's Photokina.

We still have to wait and see, though I suspect Thorsten knows what he's talking about!

I don't KNOW, but I presume.

Even if we agreed we didn't need a new one, we're all waiting for one. And that doesn't sell cameras.

I agree, I don't "need" a new M240. I am very happy with this one. However I would love to get more iso performance, thinner design (don't need the heft when using only the 50apo and a 35 lux all the time), More DR, Faster shutter speed, and a EVF similar to the SL or potentially a EVF/OVF range finder combo.

Just think, there are 1 or 2 photographers in the world running around with the new m, hopefully called the m10 and taking the photos Leica will use in its promotional advertising. We should have a post your picture of the new M thread. You know like the car guys have of new models? Is this the new M?

This: https://www.dpreview.com/news/7372622115/canon-applies-to-patent-double-sided-micro-lenses-designed-for-better-edge-performance would be a useful technology for the next but one M. However would Leica and/or CMOSIS be magnanimous enough for the benefit of M users, to licence this from Canon, I rather doubt it.  :(

I imagine there are more than one or two beta testers out there. Sean Reid has not posted a new article in forever, so you know what that means!

Those who would know seem to be saying consistently (and variously), no new M at Photokina and no new M this year.  If there isn't a new M this year, how will people here cope with the disappointment?  It doesn't mean that the existing M(240) based cameras aren't any good (other than the rather poor EVF) - they're actually very good.

The Scuttlebutt seems to be a new T and perhaps a new X camera.  Whether we get new variants or minor improvements of the M or the S is questionable ...

One thing we can be very sure of is that Leica will be testing new technology and new cameras continuously, regardless of the Photokina cycle or other projected release dates.  There will certainly be camera prototypes which go no further than version 1, and some that might get close to pre-production before the project is abandoned.  That's what development is about, isn't it?

If you take a broad view of the camera world, the excitement and future development is in full frame mirrorless (SL), mirrorless medium format (X1D) and APS-C mirrorless.  While the M system will always be there, and it will always be important and supported by Leica, I doubt it is the central focus of the company (if it is looking at market trends) ...

An introduction of a new M with SL sensor would make people happy,

Also , an interchangable Q body with M mount would be a dream camera  :)

I doubt whether the SL sensor would be a significant improvement. If they want an upgraded sensor it should do a lot better in the DR department to make the camera attractive for that reason.

A sensible post - I have no idea whether and when a new M will come, but given that it is long overdue would indicate that they are incorporating some technology that takes a lot of effort to develop.
