This is ingenious. The top flap has a zipper compartment, but underneath is a cut out for a tripod leg. You can slip one of the tripod legs under the zipper compartment and use the included rubber band to secure the legs. The Tripod stores perfectly and securely on top of the case yet still allows you to open the top either by flipping the top over or using the quick access zipper opening.

one more shot of the slot under the zipper compartment for your tripod leg.

There is also a pocket on either end that easily holds a tabletop tripod. It also has storage of an additional strap system that integrates with the shoulder strap to securely attach the case to your waist. Look at the Peak Design website for a better description of the strap system. Its actually one of the best shoulder straps I have ever seen...its pretty unique and adaptable.

1st image is the lock for the front flap...pretty cool ladder design that also has a magnet. just drop the flap and the magnet holds it closed or pull on this aluminum tab and it securely locks. Multiple steps for expansion of the bag. The attention to detail here is amazing.

Second image is more details of the strap hardware. There is a video on the Peak Design site that better explains how this works.

more for the strap details. Very adaptable to different carry styles and extremely quick to adjust. The strap system really makes this bag shine. They also have a line of quick release products that attaches to the ends of the bag. Im not using these.

The hook shown below is on one of three settings. You can quickly adjust from shortest to middle to longest setting. Then there is an additional buckle for quick access to making an additional length adjustment. The length of the strap is easily adjusted while on your shoulder in seconds.

Very clever design which could teach Messrs Billingham a thing or three … Thanks for sharing … Now have to look it up for a dealer and price.

Cheers

This is the most cleverly designed bag I have ever used...this is from a guy that has more camera bags than my wife has shoes. And my wife has a lot of shoes :)

There are so many little details that I keep discovering.

BTW- The bottom is also a coated material and its flat, so the bag stand up (when empty of full of gear) and won't fall over unlike most messenger bags.

I just switched from 35mm M lens to the zoom. Dropped the 35mm Summilux into the compartment where the zoom was stored, pushed the flap down and now the body with zoom attached easily fits on the top level. Very quickly adapts to different configs.

I started this thread as a bit of a joke, but it has become interesting - and an affordable source of GAS, it has to be said.

I was surprised to find that my dothebag Mono_9 fitted the SL with zoom attached, with space for two M lenses stacked, or an R tele lens.  But, the Mono_9 is a little short of pocket space, and I don't like keys and the  like rattling around with my cameras.  I have a Filson Magnum (I can't remember why I bought that - it would be useful if I wanted to take every M lens and body, but with small segmented spaces, it isn't very useful for the SL.

So, I read Steve Huff's article on the Wotancraft Scout, and thought it might do the trick; and Steve didn't hold back on his recommendation at all ...  :p

But then I saw the Peak Design Everyday Messenger, and thought what a great looking bag - really well thought out!  Then Kristian Dowling reviewed the Oberwerth Freiburg, and that looked good too, though smaller.  And finally, there's the Channel Modern Roller Bag Hybrid - at £1,350.00 my battered Mono_9 suddenly looks really good as a keeper ...

Apparently the SL also fits into my abandoned black Billingham M Combination ...

I think I'll buy a strap...

Afraid that bag just does not match my shoes. :p

However they are super people at Louis Vuitton. We were restoring a 1938 Figoni and Falaschi bodied Delahaye 135MS Competition, which had had the interior originally done by Louis Vuitton for Coco Chanel, the first owner. Some of the brass hinges, door levers and other fittings had broken or worn very badly. We contacted them with photos of the parts needed, expecting to be told to go jump in a lake. They came up with replacements for every single bit, which they had had in stock since the 1930's. What astonished us was that they charged 1930's prices for the parts, saying it was their pleasure. It restores your faith in human nature when something like that happens. They even made a replacement for the tiny red leather football that is on the end of the 4" long lever for the Cotal electrically operated pre-selector gearbox.

Well now; I do dearly wish I had some LV stuff of 1930s vintage needing extensive repair

On my trip to Myanmar in the new year, I am going to be getting on and off boats of various sizes over two weeks. These are not super yachts with hydraulically operated passerelles, with a crewman on hand to steady you onto the quay at Monaco but will be using a narrow, slippery and possibly rotten plank for access to the muddy banks of the Irrawaddy. Has anyone tried one of these for camera protection in similar circumstances http://www.over-board.co.uk/waterproof-dry-flat-bag-15-litres.html. Once I am on dry land, then I can roll it up and attach it to my belt. I know the SL is water-resistant but I am not sure if this would apply to a tropical downpour and it would also be good to have a fold up waterproof bag to slip it into until the rain stops. At £19.99 it does not exactly break the bank. It would save me having to raid a trash can to get its black plastic trash sack like I had to do a few years ago to protect my M9. It smelt of stale hamburgers for a long time afterwards.

Then you should have thrown the black plastic trash sack away, Wilson. :D

Pete,

No alternative. We were in the middle of the Welshman Hall Gully tropical rain forest trail in Barbados. It was blue skies when we were in the car park but 30 minutes later at the far end of the trail, the heavens opened, with the rain bouncing a foot off the ground. We were in short sleeved shirts and shorts so nothing to protect my M9. My wife spotted a trash can and I tore a bit off the plastic sack to wrap the camera in but the previous users had obviously discarded hamburgers, roti curry wraps and chicken bones in the can. The revolting smell stayed with the camera until Leica replaced the cameraleather.com dark blue kid leather cover, when putting in a new sensor the following month.

Do you know the König bags for these bad weather conditions?

http://www.koenig-photobags.de/litebag1/

Look at the price differential. The König bag is around 15 times the price of the Overboard. This is for a bag, which I will not be worried if it gets muddy or wet and which is easy to roll up and store when not required, which the König cannot do. The Overboard makes a good alternative to a black plastic trash can bag, which is what I had to use in the past. I already have two nice Billingham bags which I can use for the SL (a 225 and Leica M Combo) but I would not want to get them muddy and wet. Also they are nothing like as waterproof as the Overboard, which should survive a quick dunk. The König bag was already discussed further back in this thread but I was not impressed when I got no reply from König to two email queries I sent to them - a poor sales technique, so bought a second Billingham 225 instead.

Wilson, this waterproof bag looks terrific, and the price is fair. Thank you for spotting it! I'll take note, even if I have several Koenig bags, which BTW have as outer shells the ORTLIEB bags.

Enjoy your trip! :-)

The bag that caught my attention currently is Wotancraft Atelier series, attached is Wotancraft Avenger, I think it's the perfect bag for the SL plus second body of an M.

If you go with Oberwerth the only size that fit Leica SL is Oberwerth Muenchen. My fellow SL users use it.
