It would be nice if the R adapter would automatically stop down the lenses. Combined with an automatic magnification during focusing - this could be an acceptable R solution.

The reference to the SL is interesting - claimed by many to be the best focusing R camera. Perhaps Leica has something up its sleeve????

When one sees the results of M wides on Sony bodies, it is hard to imagine that compatibility with M lenses will be supported on the new EVIL. Expensive "R solution" though. I'd rather upgrade my M240 to get a faster EVF.

What does Sony have to do with it?

It would be no problem to shoot M lenses well, and a huge attraction.

Fully agreed. However there might be other reasons why they would want a thicker sensor glass. Better IR filtration and auto sensor cleaning for instance. A thin glass would easily break with vibration. The thin glass in the M line was out of necessity and has caused Leica quite a lot of trouble, from the IR issues with the M8 and the breaking cover glass with the M9, let alone the delamination issues.

The SL would not be dedicated to M lenses of course so i suspect that Leica won't be inclined to sell adapters given results a-la-Sony with its own lenses. Just a guess though as i have no info about that. This would not prevent Novoflex, Fotodiox and others to sell third party adapters anyway hopefully.

Leica will build a camera that will focus on future customers, not past.....

A new camera will not be designed to be the "R solution", but as most SLRs and mirrorless it will probably take R lenses through an adapter without being optimised for them.

True but Leica will need past customers so sell the camera. I don't know if im_user's idea is feasible but i could hardly resist GAS if Leica could make a smart adapter like that. They would prefer selling new AF lenses though so i don't hold my breath about that.

Pro cameras are changing. ...

Time to time it comes to my mind that they bought Sinar few years ago... still a worldwide reknown and very respected brand for studio/still  photographers... till now, "synergies" have been rather minimal (an adapter for S on Sinar bodies, and no more, seems to me...) ,maybe time has came to see something more...

"professional"

That is a great statement and a lovely choice of words given the conversation here lately. Since many here don't like seem to like that word, or understand, or want what this group needs, this may well be interesting, and it excites me for the future of the brand.

All chips on Leica please.

I'm curious what the name/designation SL actually means. Someone suggested S-Light and that got me interested because if the camera is in some way closely connected to the S system, I think that is a good thing. The S system has a great reputation amongst professional photographers and if it comes within reach of a new demographic of photographers through the new camera, that bodes well for the future of the system and Leica in general.

I thought Leica was hand-in-glove with Audi, even to the extent of both having a Q class. :D

Was is the operant word.

See the article on digitalversus.com "Meet the designers" about the new team at Leica. This article was about the new Q camera. The new designer at Leica is Vincent Laine. Sorry I could not copy the link here. Digitally challenged! ;-)
