What strap will you use on the coming new camera?

And does anybody know when the half cases and the thumb up will be available??

Also screen protectors.   And when will they update the firmware to improve skin tones?

This afternoon I saw on Twitter a post from @leica_camera that a new Leica S has been announced. As it is nearly autumn (or fall as Americans say) could this be what this topic has been on about for ages?

No, that camera (Leica S Typ 007) was announced at Photokina last year.  This week's announcement relates to it actually becoming available...

Coming soon: An interchangeable lens version of the Leica Q, with AF lenses. Due out in time for Photo Plus, in October.

This will not be the replacement to the M240 but rather a new system with new AF lenses, bulkier than the Q or M lines, with an EVF and lighter build despite the bulk. Sensor will be similar, if not the same, as the Q's sensor. Anticipate that it will come bundled with a 50 mm f/2 Summicron lens and retail around $8,000 USD. Build quality will be comparable to the M line and Q line...much of the Q's tech, including in body image stabilization, electronic shutter, and built in high res EVF, will be included. The camera may harken in design to Leicaflex bodies of years gone by...like a bulkier XT-1 with more simplified layout. This may end up being called the new "R" camera and may well take old R lenses via adapter, along with new AF R lenses. Not sure that it will take M lenses.

Anticipate that Leica will begin to simplify options, but canceling the T line and possibly the X-line. What will remain are the DLux, VLux, M, Q, S lines...

Well who's to say whether this rumour will prove true but it does concur with what I was told a month back in relation to R lenses. It rather points to a complete overhaul of the Leica product line with an end of the T a mere 18 months after it was launched.

So ..... a new M at Photokina 2016?

Indeed - we will know soon if it is true or just wishful thinking. One thing speaking against this being true is that the Q does not have body stabilisation - it is in the lens.

Full frame interchangeable AF lenses will be bigger than M lenses, so it will be interesting to see how it works ergonomically. Perhaps developing the T-line would have been better, but for some reason people are obsessed with full frame.

[...] Not sure that it will take M lenses [...]

Would be a suicide for this new body. When i knew that the T would not bring anything special for M lenses, i canceled my order and ordered a Fuji. This time i would not even order the new (R or W?) and would buy a Sony. FWIW.

Better not. Anything bulkier than R4-R7 bodies would be hard to sell compared to the Sonys... at least to me.

I'm a HUGE fan of the SL/SL2 series 'form-factor' - and user. IF any of the latest new rumor is true, and IF they were to follow something close to the SL sereis form it could would bring back the 'design heritage' and the size or close to it could provide the 'tech room' for what is in a Sony 7 series but in a body that was/is a joy to use.

I've always thought that the SL sereis was an ideal size for what C,N, and S use for the latest tech. Either way, you're probably on the right track in that Leica would opt for some type of smaller body (R4-esque size) or somewhere between the Sony and larger C and N bodies. One thing though, it seems pretty clear that they need a 'home-run' with whatever it is they're planning.

My guess - is that they'll have a new 'smallish' camera with a 'legacy shape' that will be compatible with M glass, R glass, with new AF lenses and all the tech bells and whistles to keep Leica 'relevant' in todays hyper tech-featured product market. We'll see, in the meantime I still have my excellent SL series with that stuff called.....'film'? But, I will be tempted IF Leica delivers with this next latest and greatest  rumor!!!

Yes, at least for me and for people who prefer a small and light body...

robert

PS: it had been enough to add a couple more of primes and make more promotion...

So was i. I even happened to favour the bullseye Contarex in my youth, go figure. Since then i've been growing a bit  older and my bigger monster is an old 5D1 now. Great DSLR by the way but i'm after a smaller digital back for my R lenses.

Spoke to Wolfgang earlier today and ordered two already (one for me and the old lady)..............decided to go with the AF 50mm and 21mm to start with and will add more AF lenses as they come available.........exciting days ahead :) :)

Can anyone give me any reason why the camera body should be bulkier ("SLR-like") if a new camera had more or less the Q-technology with some interchangeable lenses? Why would it need a bigger distance between bayonet and sensor, so that R-lenses could be adapted but - probably - no M-lenses?

The 'design issue' I see is IF new AF lenses are for this 'new' body, then ergonomics and size/balance are a factor. I really disliked my Noctilux on my M bodies because of the 'imbalance'. It's a fine line designing a totally new system and certainly full of compromises.

You defiantly wont like the new camera then as you Noctilux aint going to work on it either....................

Well, the imaging system of the Q is designed as an integrated lens-sensor unit. Using the sensor as a stand-alone able to perform optimally with various lenses would certainly involve different design parameters.

Do you know that for a fact?

No.......but my Noctilux didn't have AF so no point really. If you have a Noctilux you might as well use it on your M but then again you may want to get the benefit of the 36 MP :) :)

I would be disappointed to see the T go, not because I have one, but because it is a great camera with three great zooms.  It compliments my M, gives me a Leica System backup for my M Lenses if needed and  is relatively (for a Leica) inexpensive.  I could go on but I see no need to.
