With Advanced Metering operating with the shutter open all the time, does this drain the battery faster than with Classic Metering?
Advertisement Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Hi jto555, Take a look here Classic Metering Vs Advance Metering. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
MarkP Posted June 13, 2016 Share #42 Posted June 13, 2016 (edited) Yes I think it does because of the required metering off the sensor which needs to be continuously powered up. Edited June 13, 2016 by MarkP

a.noctilux Posted September 15, 2018 Share #46 Posted September 15, 2018 (edited) Of course you have to switch to advanced metering first; just selecting spot or multi-field won’t do. With advanced metering enabled (Light Metering Mode = Advanced) you can use those advanced metering options even without live view. See page 180 of the manual where this is explained. ‘Exposure metering’ selects the metering method to be used in advanced mode but you need to switch to ‘Advanced’ in the ‘Light Metering Mode’ menu to activate the selected method. When using live view this isn’t necessary but if you want to use the advanced metering options outside live view it is. This provided link (Jun 2015) was released before M10, something may be explained in M10 case. Sorry post in wrong thread . The answer must be for M10 not in this section of earlier M . sblutter Posted September 17, 2018 Share #47 Posted September 17, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I go with Classic on the main Menu, then Spot on the Set menu Super fast & accurate. After you've decided on shutter speed and approximate aperture, capturing an area that will give you what you want by holding down the shutter release 1/2 way Then compose, focus & shoot In daylight I capture a 7 out of 10(brightest) to not blow out highlights. And the opposite for night to preserve shadow details If unsure, shoot a bunch lighter & darker to increase your chances of success: "Bracketing for exposure" can be done with either shutter speed or aperture. Whatever effect you want is user preference. There's no right & wrong - just your intent and that the capture will hold up in a big print and be interesting!
