There is another solution for the time being.

I bought myself a E43 UVa 13206 filter on ebay and assumed  this would be the way to go.It wasn't because of the wrong thread.

Then I first mounted the hood on the lens and after that, let the 13206 fall into the hood in the reversed position.(with the thread on the outside.)

So for the people owning this it could be a temporary solution.I made a trip of two weeks on a rally bike through the Pyrenees with this lens, hood, filter combination.  SOLID as a ROCK.

A little more vignetting at 1.4.

Waiting for a more Leica-like solution.

Information from Hong Kong Leica Forum.  Bought the following e43 filter from amazon.co.jp and it works.

I have also now received a modified (ie screw in) hood from Leica - seems like it is a modification they are doing on a case by case basis if my experience is anything to go by.

Curious, how does 1 go about attempting to get the Leica issued hood for this lens?

Hi, I would also appreciate any contact info. to get this mod done. My 50mm summilux was part of my first Leica kit in 2016, although the UK dealer was good enough to let me have the 1/500 at normal price, no mention was made of the hood problem. I spent time scratching my head until I found this thread!

Many thanks

I contacted Leica customer services in the U.K. - firstly they sent me a replacement hood which of course had exactly the same issue, then arranged for this to be sent to Germany for modification. It’s taken several months in all but maintaining patience and politeness has paid off in the end. The only real criticism is that no one acknowledged a known problem - I’m sure they must realise the issue by now and should have acted to iprovide a solution to everyone who bought the lens proactively.

Here is my 13 Euro solution (step-up ring + JJC lens hood):

A step-up ring 43-46, then a 46 mm filter and then a JJC lens hood. If I don't need the filter, I use the standard Leica hood.

Best regards

Michael

Hey wondering where you found that hood.  I scoured the internet and couldn't find it.

Would you be able to share a link?

Ernest suggested above that the hood's code number could be the same as that of the lens itself i.e. 11688. I suspect that the replacement hood is the same, with different engravings perhaps, as the 12586 hood for Summilux 50/1.4 pre-asph (pic) which seems to be still listed in the Leica price list for 2017 hereafter: https://store.leica-camera.jp/pdf/leica_price_list_170201.pdf

The black chrome lens hood can be purchased from Leica Store Miami, listed as

“Leica Lens Hood for 50mm f/1.4 Summilux, Black Chrome (11688). SKU: 422700040000” there is no numbering on the hood itself, like the 12586 hood. Currently, the black chrome lens hood is out of stock at Leica Store Miami, but it may be pre-ordered. I purchased an extra one a few weeks ago when it was in stock. FYI Leica requested that I send them my Summilux-M so that they could resolve the lens hood situation, presumably with a screw-in black chrome hood. I started my dialogue with Leica over this issue two years ago. I will keep you up-to-date on how things develop. So grateful for the resource of this forum.

I bought an Alto filter that looks like the one LCT mentions available on eBay, and it looks like your filter, as well. It does not appear that your filter seats all the way on the lens mount. I point this out because the filter that I bought has a 0.5 mm thread pitch instead of the required .75 mm.

Alto Classic filter 43mm slim black made in Japan P/O

Filter diameter 43mm

Material: Aluminum production: Made in Japan

Color: Black

“Leica Summilux 50 / f1.4 hood X00IM (12521) dedicated filter before female screw is not with external thread. Mono coating. 43mm slim filter, you can put the XOOIM hood left on the filter for the slim diameter. Since XOOIM (12521) Hood, we have remodeled about three times, some attachment there is also a case tight. There is no knurled the urging ring in covering hood.”

In my haste, I overlooked the description of the filter which states that it is for the Summilux 50 mm F/1. 4, (not the Summilux-M 50 mm F1.4 black chrome).

In other words, the Alto filter fits only the Leica SOOME 1959 to 1968, versions I and II, filter 43 mm x 0.5 mm.

Was just your hood sent to Germany for modification, or was there a modification to the front mount of the lens itself? Or both?Leica asked me to send my entire lens, which I did, now I am wondering what’s up if they intend to simply provide me with a screw-in hood, or if what I am hearing, they intend to modify the lens front mount itself. I will check in with Leica, but I thought I would get some feedback from you regarding your experience.
