The next speculation

Surely there'll be more than one camera announced if it's a major product launch?

We'll see if the official name is simply "Q" or "Q I"... B)... some time ago there had been another Leica with 50mm fixed lens , 24x36 format, no optical rangefinder, identified as "I" (*) ... and was a single-product launch, in a xxx5 year... ;)

(*) not from the start, indeed...

Don't forget Contax, the favorite of Ansel Adams...

Well, Contessa-Nettel was part of Zeiss-Ikon since 1926 ;). But you are right, as was Ansel Adams, the Contaxes (well, at least the II and III)were arguably better cameras than the Leicas.

That does not take away from the fact that Leica is both the pioneer and the survivor.

... only when they work … their reliability and longevity is at the low end of the scale.

Has anyone speculated what the letter Q stands for (supposed it stands for something) ?   "Quiet" could be an idea...

I hope it's not a German word that some people on this forum know, but think others don't.  Like M for musssucher, (or whatever).  Nothing more annoying on this forum than people here constantly telling others what the M stands for...

  • 3 weeks later...

I predict the new Leica M11 (let's hope)

will only be be released at the next Photokina and be available in dealers stores the next day.

they have just released the Q which lets face it is really a bit like a new M for the masses who want autofocus. It will sell well and they look exactly like the M for the status. People will be wiping of the Q, putting on black tape.

They have just released the m260

but above all, the M240 maybe getting a bit long in the tooth, but it's still a very difficult camera to compete against. It still holds its own with the canon and nikons. It has another year left of really good sales, it's price will drop and that's all.

They can just drop the price every month until Photokina and gain more Leica users while selling more stock.

The M240-P  is still fresh and it's a rock solid quality pro camera.

Wait till photokina2016 everyone basically ignored the last photokina, the next one will coincide with the new canon and Nikon upgrades and that's when Leica is most likely to reveal another magnificent messucher.

What is an M260?  Leica has been on a roughly three year cycle. M8: 2006  M9: 2009  M240: 2012. the next in that sequence if they adhere to it is 2015.
