Nice combo,

enjoy

Is that your M-A came with hot shoe cover ?

Is Tri X always included ?

Can we see the packaging, if you don't mind of course ?

Oh the hot shoe cover is a separate purchase ! from Match Technical

Also i realized like the recent MP, it comes with the new strap type:

My M-A came with the standard Leica strap of the last 20 years. Yes it included a roll of Tri-X , but Leica Miami also threw in a roll of Kodak Porta 400. Nice.

Strange thing.

In 2014, my two M-A came with leather straps not the common nylon 14312 that I used to have since long.

Anyway, I put nylon 14312 on each M-A when I need strap.

I don't know what the new M-A straps are like (I bought my camera almost 4 years ago), but the strap my camera came with was, um, let's just call it sub-par.  The camera deserves something a lot better.  I went with a leather strap from Hawkesmill in England.  No affiliation, but the straps are really nice and made from high-quality leather.

I'm pretty sure the 4 x M-A bodies I've received new in box all came with the regular nylon strap. Not a problem for me as I rate the strap highly and prefer it to all others. (That said, the finish quality of the more recent nylon straps has been inferior to those supplied 10+ years ago.)

Dear sir, what on earth do you need 4 M-A’s for, if you don’t mind me asking? :))

I don't mind. I have never had more than two simultaneously. One of the four was replaced by Leica, another was returned to the dealer for other reasons (not because it was faulty or anything like that).

Normally I do not like grips, they disturb the clean look of the camera. But this one works pretty well when you have the camera in your hands for the whole day. Easy and fast to remove

Leica 14405 grip for me is ideal when I use wriststrap

M-A doesn't always need grip with well balanced lens

baseplate screwed in strap is fine

Don't you remember 2003? That was when everybody was saying the same thing about the MP, that it was a camera to keep forever, the camera that wouldn't become obsolete. Even if the meter failed and couldn't be repaired it would still be as functional as the M-A, it doesn't need a battery. Those people in 2003 weren't wrong, it's just that what they said has been overlooked.

As for the M-A being the 'forever edition', well look at Leica's recent history and decide. In around a year there will be a 'black paint' edition of it, then there will be an edition commemorating something or other, then there will be a major cosmetic upgrade edition and you'll get the M-A-2, and so on. So yes, the M-A could well be the 'forever edition', a forever comprised of little tempting morsels that mean envy and upgrades are the order of the day. Why, one day there may even be a 'meter edition', it's not a mad idea considering Leica's recent upgrades policy within it's core business of selling collectibles.

Steve

Well it is six years later and none of this has happened. So maybe it is a forever edition. Maybe.

Hi folks, I’m new to this forum, but decided to join because, well, I really really want an M-A. I’ve been getting into film photography for a while now though I shoot digital with the Fuji X-Pro3. Long story short, I’ve had a lot of issues with Fujifilm Canada’s repair service, to the point I’m sending the X-Pro3 in for service a second time in the same year I bought it, along with other lens issues I’ve experienced in the past two years. Thus, part of the appeal of going full film photography is I already know Sunny 16 and shoot it with digital (and my other film cameras), and just for once would not like to blame some electronic part for a reason why I have to send a camera/lens in for service. Thinking I’ll sell the Fuji equipment and buy myself my dream camera: The M-A. I don’t have a Leica Boutique near me (Vancouver, Canada) that has an M-A on display, so I figured I’d ask here: in all of your humble opinions, do I go silver, or black chrome? I primarily shoot street, which seems like black chrome would be the obvious choice, but silver chrome also has that classic nostalgic look that most of the greats used back in the day. Any thoughts/opinions here? I worry Black Chrome will look “boring” after a while haha.

Go black. It is very discreet. Knowing sunny 16 will help you a lot. Eventually the perfect metering will come natural to you. Good luck.
