fwiw, the M6 is still at 77 and not 79.5. The M6TTL and M7 is 79.5. As someone mentioned already, the added height was due to the TTL electronics. The M6 is the same as the M4P, the MP, and the M-A. The M6 and M6TTL are different cameras and probably shouldn't be lumped together as the "M6."

Thank you Cal for the link :) . Very interesting . There are more printed circuits on the M6 than on the MP (which also has)

Although I'm not into Leica-porn I did promise Henry a peek at my recently acquired mint M7 (2007, 3999xxx). Seen today with my 28/50/90 'lite' lens kit which is perfect for this camera.

Congrats on the new camera, Mark! I still hanker after an M7 and I may get one through the a la carte program one of these days. I don't have the 90, but I agree with you about the other two lenses.

any photo even against the light (contre jour) , under difficult light condition like fog.....

I take all coded lenses of my M8 and M9 and I use them all (from 135 to 28 mm)

Aspheric are very adapted to M7 :)

The MacroElmar 90 is also a fabulous lens , very light (versus my Apo Cron 90 apsh)

Have you a macroadapter with this lens ?

PS: Mark you keep always the M240 ? compares color (like Kodak Portra) photos between both

Not meaning to distract the thread, but the reds in your picture are pale. Is that a character of the M240?

 

Definitely not! I had trouble lighting the camera and lenses as the desk light I usually use was dead. So I photographed it under a very warm light on a yellow/orange toned wooden board because I liked the texture. B&W looked boring so I just dropped red, orange and yellow, and then desaturated the whole image further.

I also have a very extensive set of M-lenses (too many :rolleyes:) from 21 to 135mm. 21 SEM & Summilux, 24 Elmar, 28 Summicron & Elmarit, 28-50 MATE, 35 Summilux, 40 Summicron, 50 Noctilux (1.0) & Summilux, 75 Summilux & Summicron, 90 MAcro-Elmar, and 135 APO-Telyt. So they will all get a work out on the M7. But it's really nice sometimes just taking this compact little set or just the MATE if I don't want a single focal length.

 

I specifically decided on the 90 Macro-Elmar over the Summicron due to it's performance and compactness (http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m-lenses/228593-praise-4-0-90-macro-elmar.html). I don't use lenses longer than 75mm that often (although I'm becoming very partial to this and the 135) so it's perfect for me. Yes, I also have the macro-adapter for the 90.

 

ps. I have no problems with the M240 colour and I also like that I can manipulate the files to my liking. Film is just different :).

I tried an M7 today, as well as an M240. I compared the shutter noise of several M's, because I remembered that the M240 is strikingly silent. Conclusion: the difference in decibel between the M9 and the M240 is not that big that it would justify the investment in the M240 for me (I have a perfect sensor on my M9), but the M7 seems the most silent comparing M4, M6, M7. It is a very dry decent, almost shy click :)

Yes, the M7 is definitely much more quiet than the M9. Especially, the shutter recock sounds is very pronounced, and the metal shutter of the M9 has a distinct 'klunk' or 'chack', depending on speed. The M7 has a very refined feeling when shooting, as a result.

I meant to say quieter than the M240 too :) because the M240 has no Discrete mode, it has in the end a longer noise than the M7

 

 

Funny but cameras I have used for fifty years became quieter every year - until I got hearing aids (that cost as much as two M7s.)

its so beautiful, haven't shot film for years, except for a flirtation with a M6 and then a M6 TTL for a few rolls ... aperture priority is so important to me to catch the fleeting moment

I wanted to re-post with my new A&A case. I must say I haven't had an Art & Artisan but the fit and finish and general feel is the nicest I have held.

 

This M7 is after the viewfinder was fitted but before the optical DX reader. I have tried a few films through it and everything works perfectly so not intending to have it updated at the moment.

 

Its in such good condition, I can't believe the original owner had more then a few films through this!!!

 

It was interesting on my test film. I used Portra 400 and a Voigtlander 50mm f1.5 M Aspherical lens. Both the film and lens are known for slightly lower contrast and the results looked positively faded and ethereal compared to what I am used in digital, always previously buying the newest highest contrast equipment.

However after using the contrast slider on Lightroom I can make the contrast go up as much as I want, so the pictures look very good keeping their ethereal quality:

I am taking a big risk. I am going on holiday for two weeks and I have decided to just take a new film camera and two new lenses. I have ordered tons of Fuji Superior 400, Kodak Portra 400 and Kodak Tmax 400 from amazon which has come (prime I love you).

I think the only risk is that you might like the results so much you won't know what to do with your digital cameras.:)
