I updated the firmware and noticed this problem: When I turned the auto exposure compensation from ON to OFF, I was no longer able to use the thumb knob to change EV (good). When I turned the auto exposure compensation back ON, it continued to register as OFF but the thumb knob was able to change EV (strange). However, changes in EV did not produce changes in the images (bad).

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Peter, I understood, but was only answering your direct question about getting the FW on the card, not preserving profiles, not preserving file number…or other issues covered in other comments, which prove you're not the only one. :)

I don't set user profiles, content to work with basic camera settings. It took me less than a minute to scroll through my settings to get them back to my preferences. I had to go into settings anyway, since there are now some good new ones to choose. ;)

Yes, I didn't appreciate that the settings or anything else would be affected, so I didn't take any measures to prevent it from happening. I think that's the issue: if you're not aware of the potential problem you'll only find out about it when it's too late.

I only set profiles for non-coded lenses and one basic profile to ensure the most common settings are preserved, so it wasn't hard to reinstate them. But some people may have a whole host of different features embedded in different profiles which could be a real pain to remember, let alone re-install.

13) I don't use GPS or the grip, but updates to the location issues with JPEG have been addressed. Other cameras delete the location when there is no GPS signal and leave the EXIF data field blank, Leica chose to use the last location instead. Now, the location is deleted after 5min if no GPS signal is present. Somebody else will have to comment on this.
Bad news for me :( No option to change this delay of 5 min? 24h was certainly long but 5 min is not convenient

Try SET menu / Exposure compensation / SET / Direct Adjustment: Off / SET

I had to check this to see what the issue is. In the SET menu, what you see at the top level is the EV compensation actually set: OFF (=0), +0.3, -0.3 etc. if you go to the next level down, you can also set Direct Adjustment to On (use the thumb wheel directly) or Off (use the thumb wheel only while pressing the button on the front).

I suspect that in your penultimate sentence, the Off you saw simply meant the EV was set to Off (=0). I can't explain the fact that changes in the EV had no effect on the images: perhaps try again?

This is working correctly. This is a discussion we had in beta. The fact that EV displays from -3.0 to OFF to +3.0. The zero setting is displayed as "OFF." The display of "OFF" doesn't mean that the EV function with the thumbwheel is off, only that the EV value is zero (or off).

A user has to go into the settings to set the thumbwheel to OFF. These two uses of the word "OFF" in different locations, and having a different meaning, seems to be confusing.

Some thought that the EV should read "0" instead of "OFF." Minor detail once you understand the way it is setup.

Good:

Lots of great stuff in this fw.

Bad:

WB still as it was, but I can live with it.

Lightroom colors still suck. I wish Leica could do something with the latter. It is the software that is delivered with the camera after all.

Just to demonstrate the difference here's one from the M and one from M8. Both taken with an iphone, no editing. The M framelines was "clearer" than my M8 and M6 but now I find it distractingly bright.

I have noticed no change in the brightness levels between the old and new firmware and have been using the updated version for a while.

M240 framelines are not the lit the same way as M6 and M8 and do appear more contrasty in most circumstances. I did not notice any difference between firmwares 2.0.0.12 and 2.0.1.5 though.

You might find the framelines in red less distracting. I know I do.

After update, 2 issues.

-Using the MF grip. After update, my gps will not auto-set my time/timezone. Turned camera off/on, removed/installed battery. With gps on, I can still manually change date/time. Before update, with gps on date/time was greyed out because control defaulted back to the gps.

-After update, I can no longer change my file name prefex. Default is "L". I need t change it to "M" to allow me to sort files when shooting M9 & M20 for the same job.

I've now got video OFF in both M240s, direct exposure correction ON in both, and one of them otherwise turned into a nice CMOS M9, (classic exposure metering and LV OFF as well). The other is the LV mostly on machine. But it still takes 1-2 sec between shots, even when I set review OFF. What's the trick to getting faster shooting with LV on?

no trick, its a hardware limitation. Just use a fast card, but otherwise its slow.
