I managed to pick one up unused second-hand for £260, about to see how I get on in the sun ;)

Hi to all

I am one of those paying the silly 500,- euro for this 12466. However, still dont' regret it...

PS: photo of the hood/28 silver cron combo taken with the iPad sitting up in my cabin... So appologize for the not-so-informative perspective...

Great, tell us what wine you're drinking and with which of the Bentleys you arrived!

Hi again

Thanks, I am really happy about the deal I got on this combo used (less than new price 2008 which in my mind is nice since it all was totally mint, boxed etc...!)!

However, concerning the wine and Bentleys... where did I cause such a major pre-disposed impression? The cabin do not even have a wc... and we drive i Peugeot (I do not really know why I tell you this..). And this leaves me being another Leica "addict" just doing our "strange" priorities! OK?

The very best from Stein

I am going to have a look at alternative hoods tonight that are similar like my Summilux pre asph 50 and my early 35/50 summicron hood and see if I might ask a friendly engineer if the pattern might be digitidsed then CNC'd into a different hood. it would be cool if you could unscrew the plastic hood and swap for a nicely engineered alternative....

Just for fun but could be interesting from a 'pimp your ride' point of view

PS, Stien you could risk spraying silver to match the limited edition 28mm hoods sold !

Hi and thanks!

Yes I do follow the idea... :) However, do you know if a silver version do exist... as a special edition item... I think I have seen it? Just asking out of curiosity!

Regards,

Stein

Sorry... I misread your comment! You did write silver hood and not silver lens... So silver 12466 obviously exist. But probably impossible to get...

I managed to find one of these at Robert White at the bargain price of about $208 shipped from the UK to California. Putting on my 28mm Cron it seems to slip on and off too easily, not really a reliable fit. Is this the case for you other 12466 and 28mm Cron owners?

No. Once fitted it is very secure.

It has never come off during use.

Maybe that is why yours was a half-price 'bargain' ;)

1) Make sure, you press both release tabs on the hood correctly.

2) Align the white index dot on the lens hood with the lens index (not the red dot at the mount, but the lens scale index at 1200, when mounted).

3) Gently push the hood all the way onto the lens - it should almost touch the aperture dial, when mounted correctly on the 28 Summicron.

4) Release the release tabs of the lens hood and verify, the hood sits secure.

Both samples of the 12466, I have sit strong - they have a slight play (which the original 35/1.4 ASPH twist lock hood has not - it's the only hood bar the new full aluminium style, that sits strong and play free).

If your hood doesn't sit properly, check the small locking prongs inside the hood, when unmounted - do they really extend fully, when both release tabs are in their resting position?

Do they retract properly, when the release tabs are pushed?

Other than the fact that this is rather expensive, could someone explain if the 12466 is superior to other hoods in blocking out glare and lens flare?

After all there are many options out there (Leica original hood that ships with the 28/2, Contax GG1, Heavystar etc.)

The M9 Titanium Edition had a "silver" version of the 12466 hood:

It might look similar but this must be a different hood altogether to the 12466 and the hood that comes as part of the Titanium M7 and Hermès M7 sets. The M9 Titanium comes with the 35 FLE which uses a screw fitting for the hood.
