OUFRO by Leica are available on ebay.co.uk from GBP 85 (from Poland) plus shipping, up to hundreds of GBP.

Alternatives are available. One from China with 6 bit coding at about GBP 35. Who needs the coding? Who needs to wait for delivery from China?

I bought a similar device from Amazon.de (Germany) that works a treat. It was about GBP 40 including shipping. I do recommend it is used with a tripod or monopod.

I've used mine with a monopod and EVF. If your eyesight is good enough, especially in strong sunlight, then you could use LV. Otherwise focussing is guesswork because the ORF is useless with an extension tube.

It is good fun to play with these things.

Jaques.  Please no, not insane, maybe imaginative or anticipating?  :p

I started buying them early on, right after the M9 was introduced.

Back then, the OUFROs were fairly inexpensive by comparison.

Also, 12 of them stacked together cover 12 cm.

That's a nice little handle to carry the assembly by.

I also have four Bellows II.

But they don't see as much use.

Here is a shot from May 2011.

Obviously at that time I didn't have enough OUFROs.  :(

With this Rube Goldberg contraption I got shots like this.

Back then I didn't know what amazing IQ an APO-Telyt-R 280/4 was capable of delivering!  :o

An IQ the 400/5.6 lens is certainly lacking to deliver.

I picked one up for £30 three weeks ago at Croydon Photo Centre but I had to search hard to get it at that price. They were being offered for $150 on the online auction site at the time.

This shot is with a 1947 Zeiss Opton Sonnar 50/1.5 with OUFRO and M420 at 2 to 3 inches.

Pete, How did you get the Zeiss Opton adapted to the OUFRO?

Thanks in advance for your instruction.

Hi Ming,

My Zeiss Opton Sonnar is in Leica Thread Mount so I only needed to use a LTM to M adaptor.

The Opton Sonnars in LTM are fairly rare but they are out there and they're much less likely to be fakes because they were made in Zeiss's factory in Oberchoken, which was in West Germany after the division and didn't fall into Russian hands after WWII.

Lenses after WWII that were made in the Carl Zeiss factory in Jena are much more likely to be fakes because the factory was taken under Russian control and many inferior Fed parts that resembled Zeiss parts were used and quality suffered.  (Apologies if you already knew this.)

If your Opton Sonnar is in Contax mount (as most of them are) I recommend finding an Amadeo Contax to M adaptor.  They're a bit pricey but they are excellently engineered.  Googling Amadeo Muscelli adaptor should find his website.  (It's important to get the Contax - M adaptor and not the Nikon - M adaptor because the Nikon thread pitch is different and can cause back-focus.  Some people will tell you that you can use the Contax and Nikon adaptors interchangeably but this is not correct and will become obvious with a fast lens like the 50/1.5.)

Pete.

Very kind of you to say but it belongs to the proprietor of the shop.

Russell's Teapot orbits the sun somewhere in space between Earth and Mars rather than near the Russell Hotel. 🙂
