If ever anybody was in any doubt about the viability of film and Leica film cameras this thread would prove beyond all doubt that film is still alive and very well thank you.

Gerry

Gerry thanks for your nice comment and you are always welcome here :)

I learned a lot from this thread on different film brands, on the use of film lenses for

analogic cameras , on MF cameras....

For Gary NZ - A terrible set of scans of terrible condition slides (not their fault - they've been dragged through jungles, cyclones, deserts, and several house moves with me having forgotten about their existence), but some of the PNG chopper pilots were your mates...

I want to show you this picture taken with the Apo Telyt 135 Asph

For field depth effect , I thought I do not have it in this photo :)
or the foreground sharper in the first plan gives the bridge in background a perspective effect
4 hills behind with its blur effect (a little foggy that day) gives an reinforced effect of this perspective.

In the end, a tele lens here a 135mm is perfectly compatible with a landscape photo  !

and film highlights very well this effect without "smoothing" aspect due to pixels and camera software !

Taking from a building at 70 meters :)

One of the largest bridges and with a very "avant-garde" architecture  :)

The definition without pixels smoothing aspect is outstanding

We can clearly see the steel cables holding the bridge, the cars on the bridge and the small boat under the bridge

Incredible lens

I'll post this bridge picture in color film and in color digital with the same tele for comparison :)

For me "Leica M" means portable, high quality photography. So I'd go for a Summicron, with no thoughts about prices so far.

To the point of image- quality: A lot of people want to be the cool war- reporter- guy without using light meters and so on.

Perhaps a proper exposure and developing would bring more advantage than buying an expensive lens ( that's not for you, Henry!).

If your pictures are shaky and bad developed, probably the last few improvements of an MTF- curve are not noticeable ;-)

The other point is our beloved hobby and we are all searching for reasons to buy new stuff (but there are none, really...). So if you just want a new lens just for

fun, just do it! :) :) :)

There's another opinion of reason  :)

Thank you Klaus

It's true that with age , we seek the light ... and not too expensive

financial resources also decrease with age :D

I agree with Klaus.  We only live once and if you want it you should get it, no matter how irrational it might (and I stress subjectiveness of "might") be.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!

Coming back to this thread always surprises me in a nice way, I can take a trip and never leave my chair.

My wife and myself went to a local historic state park here in West Virginia this weekend with the intention of getting at least one shot that's worthy of putting on a post card and mailing out.

I took my Nikon FM2 and 24mm f/2.8 and she took her Agfa Isolette III.

We got quite a few keepers from two rolls of film but here are two that I think will make the post card. (The square crop is the Agfa MF camera)
