Thanks for the link.  Out of curiosity I downloaded the Porta 160 profile and imported it into LR Classic.  Applied it to a photo taken at a local lake with M240 & 50mm Noctilux f1 v4.  Pleasing result.

It looks great! And I haven't seen the Portra 160 profile before, there seem to be several new profiles since I last visited the site.

I have to check them out!

As a former film shooter, I've become enamored with achieving that "film look" recently. I've bought some presets and profiles from Mastin, Cobalt, and Classic Presets. Jury is still out, but so far I really like the Kodachrome presets from Cobalt and Classic, Portra from Mastin. Still experimenting with some of the B&W sets. Have been intrigued by the Cobalt Fuji digital emulations as well - I used to shoot an X100F and loved the Classic Chrome look.

I suppose I don't really buy the argument that if you want a film look you should shoot film. I used to be a bit of a purist, but the more I've studied and read the more I've come to the conclusion that a photograph is a means to convey whatever the photographer wants to convey and the ends generally justify the means. Achieving an analog look using the convenience of modern technology is a perfectly reasonable approach to attaining the look of years ago.

I'll try to post some of my images soon.

Thank you for participating in this thread. And I agree that everyone must be allowed to do whatever they want to achieve the look they want.

I've long been curious about the Cobalt presets, but have still not fully understood how they work. Do you buy one profile for your camera model and then use different presets "on top of" that profile? Or are there several profiles as well? When browsing through the different looks, do you use the presets panel or the profile browser?

I'm just starting to work with them, but this is my understanding based on what I've read and how it appears in LR:

You have to buy the base pack first, which is a Profile, not a present. The profile is unique to the camera you shoot, and in order to use their emulations you have to have a camera specific base raw profile for each camera.

The emulations, whether film or digital, are presets.

So first I apply the Cobalt base profile to my RAW image then apply one of their presets, then tweak.

I should start to look at some non-expensive LR presets.

Then you should try out some of the free profiles from Presetpro, as mentioned earlier in this thread. Some of them are really good. I often actually prefer them over the very expensive RNI profiles. Two of my most used profiles are "Fuji100" and "Kodak Color".
