earleygallery Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1521 Posted June 10, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mark, I do think you capture all our dreams. This thread can be seen as an important marketing input, better than a multiple choice market survey, so will someone wake up at Solms? Again, this new camera isn't aimed at core M users. It will appeal to some no doubt, but I'm sure that Leica have aimed this at new customers primarily. People here need to wake up to the facts. There's no 'budget M' mount camera coming out for them tomorrow.

tashley Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1523 Posted June 10, 2013 D-day tomorrow, damp squib day. Oh c'mon, some people are really excited! I hear Wilma Flintstone won the lottery and wants to upgrade from the camera she had in college, but with some added cachet.....
brunom Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1524 Posted June 10, 2013 With more opening on the mystic Mini M, it is confirmed the French rumor is fake. But is is likely correct that it has the zoom lens. retractable lens definitely. Also, it has a flat top that matches the knob height, it's possible to have a built-in EVF. If so, it won't match the classical M OVF that is at the far left size that allows to use both eyes in the composition. The far left side of mini M seems installed the built-in flash. Hi The assumed pop-up flash, could in fact be a pop-up EVF ? Bruno
Guest tanks Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1525 Posted June 10, 2013 ...People here need to wake up to the facts. There's no 'budget M' mount camera coming out for them tomorrow. That is what puzzles me. What difference does it make in the grand scheme things if there is a "budget" M mount camera that is maybe $1-2K cheaper. The lenses are still going to run 3-10K a pop. From Leica's perspective those shelling out the price of the lenses are not going to care that much about a "budget M" mount camera.
Guest snowboarder Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1526 Posted June 10, 2013 Again, this new camera isn't aimed at core M users. It will appeal to some no doubt... Who exactly??? Even if a confused rich grandma gets this thing, she'll soon discover she won't be able to take any sharp picture of her grandson with such a slow lens... From Leica's perspective those shelling out the price of the lenses are not going to care that much about a "budget M" mount camera. An integrated EVF equipped FF M mount camera, with no optical coupled rangefinder is what a lot of people are craving for. When they announced a "Mini M" it was a fair assumption that the thing would be, ya know, a Mini M. If they had announced a "Maxi X2", this forum wouldn't have even woken up. mjh Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1528 Posted June 10, 2013 When they announced a "Mini M" it was a fair assumption that the thing would be, ya know, a Mini M. In the same sense in that the X2 is a Micro M and the D-Lux 6 a Nano M – i.e. not at all.
sblitz Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1529 Posted June 10, 2013 No. The positioning of the mini M IN THE AD is between the X (micro M) and M240 implies something different, a new range of camera(s) from what has been made to date. It clearly does not imply an X with a zoom. To now say different is to deny the implication of the ad and to underscore the misleading aspect of this marketing campaign. Simple as that. dwbell Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1530 Posted June 10, 2013 In the same sense in that the X2 is a Micro M and the D-Lux 6 a Nano M – i.e. not at all. That quote in itself highlights the shear, utter absurdity of the campaign. If the connection is none, "not at all" why oh why would anyone in their right mind force that non-connection in a marketing campaign prior to a new camera launch!? UliWer Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1531 Posted June 10, 2013 ... in a marketing campaign ...QUOTE] I see no campaign. There is a website with some ambiguos pictures, some combinations of letters numbers and an interrogation mark and the announcement that there will be anything at 06/11. We are the only campaigners. dwbell Posted June 10, 2013 Share #1532 Posted June 10, 2013 Shall we argue the semantics of what does and does not constitute a "campaign"? You can, I'll not bother thanks. I think it was a dumb idea, it's my opinion. I think it drummed up a load of interest in totally the wrong segment, only to then disappoint, and I'm guessing none in the desired segment. But I've said my piece, I'll leave it at that as I've no interest in what I know will now follow.
