If this is correct and not just a Photoshop dream, with no interchangeable lenses and no possibility to use M and R lenses with adapters, this is just another overpriced glorified P&S. No interest for me.

Two reasons I think the picture and the documentation in the above link may be faked :

1. In the documentation taken from the iPad screen, there is a spelling error : 'gamme de produit' should be written 'gamme de produits' - it could be a draft document - but I doubt it;

2. In the description of the sensor, they mention '16.1 Million de pixels' - Millions should not be with a capital 'M' - and leica often refers, in its French documentation to 'MP' or 'megapixels'

Only time will tell :)

No.

"Competition" means something else that people will spend money on in preference.

Regards,

Bill

Agreed, competition can be from anywhere that would put pressure on M sales. Although, I don't see a lot of competition that would sway M owners to completely abandon their M for another camera that would mount M-lenses, yet.

The day a FF small camera arrives with internal EVF that also takes M lenses with good micro lens correction, it might provide competition. On the other hand, it will not have a RF. On the other, other hand, if, Leica can manage a great M-mini like this, it would help to cripple the competition for a FF camera that mounts M-lenses.

Then again, :), why not just buy a RX1 because most would buy a "mini" to have something small and I doubt many would then festoon it with a big ol' kit zoom. Most, would want to shoot a 35mm anyway.

The RX1 really does hit a pretty nice sweet spot. I hope Leica is looking in the rearview mirror. We are getting very close to having a FF alternative to mount our M lenses. May not have a RF, but it may not matter to a lot of folks.

p.s. Bill, thanks again for sending me the book on Santorini - much appreciated!

I think a Leica version of an RX1 with a VF would be a big win... especially if it was the same price.

I completely agree, and think this would be their best seller. It would be more expensive but if they built in the viewfinder and kept it just under the£3000 threshold it would sell .

kidding!

copy someone else and probably not do it as well

that would be a disaster for Leica

This is probably a not too bad translation from German with a couple of not that rare typos. I would not base wishful thinkings on that.... or anything else. :D;)

Don't forget the lettering on the lens of the leaked image was clearly faked. It even had a typo in it Elman instead of Elmar.

Hard to see anything clearly but this cam looks too true to be fake if you ask me. Even the strap lug doesn't seem well fixed on the right. Too true to be fake i told you. :D

A viewfinder (like a "real photographer" needs), dump the puny little flash (because someone "for real" would use a "real" flash).

Make it a "real" camera.

I would have bought that Sony if there was a VF.

If there is no VF in this camera, I will be thankful for my R lenses and move on. I have my 5D and my film cams; I will stick with those.

Feel like want to be part of the discussion. By logic (my 2 cents), Mini M would be RX1 version with interchangeble lens. Reasons -

1. Leica should not give up M advantages, i.e. quality and simplicity;

2. Should be able to use its state of art M lenses that distance themselves from other brands;

3. Price of M240/M9 is out of reach for many photographers. With introduction of Mini, Leica certainly will improve its share of market while not compromising lens sale. In fact, it will be in positive way for lens.

Too real to be fake but it could still be a culled prototype and the use of a black backdrop is unusual.
