paulsydaus Posted May 24, 2013 Share #241 Posted May 24, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) How about a Leica with FF movie with Apple ProRez output to take the Summilux C Leica movie range of lenses plus M and R. Body by Jonathan Ive.Focus puller with Leica Stanley Kubrick special edition tape measure optional:) Lol, but I honestly do think Leica will introduce a dedicated 4k video camera one day... NZDavid Posted May 24, 2013 Share #243 Posted May 24, 2013 Shouldn't there be prizes for the most accurate guess? * APS sensor * AF with fiddly manual focus LCD option * Interchangeable lenses * Fits Panasonic Leica series plus new ones tba * Leica M lens compatible but x1.3 * Sensible controls like proper aperture and shutter dials as per M or X * No EVF or OVF but existing accessory EVF will be compatible * New bundled software * Long delay before it is actually available * Celebrity endorsement -- who will it be?? Unlikely to be a rangefinder because that would detract from the real M.
viramati Posted May 24, 2013 Share #244 Posted May 24, 2013 I would have thought that to set it apart from the pack it would have to be a FF sensor on a smaller M body minus the rangefinder. the main problem I see with this is that if it is a manual lens only camera focus peaking doesn't work well with wide angle lenses where the inherent DOF makes accuracy difficult. Personally I would have thought that a crop sensor is unlikely as sony, fuji, panasonic etc have already done that and I think it would be hard for them to really compete
jaapv Posted May 24, 2013 Share #245 Posted May 24, 2013 I'm sure the folks at Leica are having a good laugh at some of our suggestions, and that the marketing department will be opening a few bottles of Sekt when the results of their sweepstake on the number of posts are in this afternoon at five. Paul Reading Posted May 24, 2013 Share #246 Posted May 24, 2013 Forgive me if this has been said (I gave up reading after 8 pages), but these posts are not predictions, they're wishlists. I predict a Digilux II replacement but with X2 build quality. A fixed lens zoom camera with EVF not a range finder. This is not a wish list it is a logical guess. An RX100 alternative is already in the range it is called the X2, so this announcement is not an X2 upgrade to FF it is a new camera. I don't think it will be a new interchangeable lens camera because I believe it would cause more problems than it would solve.

Either with a 1 inch or a mft sensor.
jip Posted May 24, 2013 Share #248 Posted May 24, 2013 The M stands for Messsucher so I think it will be a rangefinder, if not it would be (very) stupid to call it an M.
flyalf Posted May 24, 2013 Share #249 Posted May 24, 2013 I think it will be an interchangeable M mount crop-sensor camera without the rangefinder mechanism. +1 Its a APS-C mirrorless with a M compatible mount and 2 new AF lenses with M mount + built-in chips and electronic contacts. pop Posted May 24, 2013 Share #250 Posted May 24, 2013 The M stands for Messsucher so I think it will be a rangefinder, if not it would be (very) stupid to call it an M. The illustration on their homepage calls all manners of cameras "M". It seems that they want to de-emphasize the importance of the rangefinder for their success in the market. Stealth3kpl Posted May 24, 2013 Share #251 Posted May 24, 2013 The M stands for Messsucher so I think it will be a rangefinder, if not it would be (very) stupid to call it an M. A mini rangefinder? Well, if you think they can make one smaller than the M but I think they would've done that earlier and called it the M Pete
UliWer Posted May 24, 2013 Share #252 Posted May 24, 2013 The illustration on the homepage is for advertising not for telling truth or giving detailed technical information. earful Posted May 24, 2013 Share #253 Posted May 24, 2013 ff m-monochrom sensor, no rangefinder, autofocus, fixed 50mm summicron, optional evf. same size range as the sony rx1. i'd buy one.
swamiji Posted May 24, 2013 Share #254 Posted May 24, 2013 Based on recent releases, whatever Leica produces, it will be too little, too late, too expensive, and Leica will not be able to produce enough to meet demand.

Advertising wants to stir attention. At least in this forum it is successful. Perhaps, if so then we can expect some clarification during the announcement. Because what ever was released, was approved by Leica. If nothing else, it denotes a change in direction.
Delcredere Posted May 24, 2013 Share #256 Posted May 24, 2013 Maybe Leica have used the time since their announcement of the M240 to develop its successor, thus obviating the need to produce any M240's at all other than the samples that have already been distributed - their intention being to behave in the same way with the Mini M and its successor on a rolling basis so they never actually have to go to all that bother of producing in a timely manner a large volume of cameras that they have announced? Or maybe not.
StephenPatterson Posted May 24, 2013 Share #257 Posted May 24, 2013 The M stands for Messsucher so I think it will be a rangefinder, if not it would be (very) stupid to call it an M. The M stands for Milestone, at least according to Leica. It will not be a rangefinder, for the same reason the M-E didn't have a frame preview lever. Too expensive to manufacture and too many warranty returns. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/277625-leica-m-tagline.html#post2357354

digitalpowershot Posted May 24, 2013 Share #259 Posted May 24, 2013 Another crop sensor camera would be stupid. A RX1like camera with M-mount, no rangefinder (which is expensive and that's why we have the M). That would be much better. I do not expect something else than FF from Leica. Even in the next X(3). phancj Posted May 24, 2013 Share #260 Posted May 24, 2013 My guess either APS-C or (hopefully) FF with zoom lens and AF. Lens not interchangeable. CJ
