Thanks Bill,

Just like you, I was intrigued by the APO but never put my name on any list. I just decided to look for one that very day and started cold calling the smaller dealers listed on the Leica website; I avoided the larger dealers, knowing that they could have significant waiting lists. Luckily, I happened on Precision Camera which has been a very professional outfit to deal with.

As an aside, the Leica gods must be on my side. About 6 weeks ago, out of the blue, a dealer which I purchased my MM from called me to offer a black M240 they were expecting in a few days. I wasn't in the market for the M (had not even put my name on any list) given I had only gotten the MM a few months earlier but with the advantages of LV and EVF, I succumbed within an hour and called him back with my credit card info. I haven't regretted it one bit. The IQ with my lenses (35 Lux ASPH pre FLE, 50 Nocti 1.0) that focus shift or had been difficult to have focus corrected have improved to where I am satisfied regarding their performance.

Did you get a 50 APO from them?

Yes, should be here by Monday. Already ordered a B+W MRC UV filter as I don't use lens caps at all.

Congrats! You will enjoy it. I hope to get out this weekend and try mine. The lens hood is a twist out method which is different. Leica includes two types of caps. When I picked mine up they were holding the other one for Gary. I don't suppose you are Gary? No problem if you wish to remain annonymous. Enjoy!

Yesterday my dealer in Melbourne, Australia, phoned to say that my APO 50

is in. It is being posted to me today so will arrive on Friday...perhaps, post to rural areas is not particularly quick.

I have been waiting for slightly more than three months, but I did jump to the head of the cue when someone else dropped out, which was a stroke of luck.

My dealer received two of them yesterday and they are the first they have had.

They received one M240 back in early May and have had none since. They are a small dealership but long established.

Finally received my APO 50 today, ordered in May 2012.

Have no info on the total number of lenses delivered to Finland.

Tested the lens briefly in the backyard, and, sadly, encountered the flare problem, the existence of which I had no previous knowledge, but now found out that there is even a thread on the subject already.

The remedy would be to build DIY extension for the lens hood ?

Don't worry all lenses flare more or less. I would guess that yours is very good from this viewpoint. Just curious: do you get some flare when the light source is into the frame or outside of it?

:) Puts:

"The SCR, while in itself a high contrast lens, has a certain propensity to flare. The ASCR50 on the other hand is not only flare-free, but does suppress the internal reflections and the veiling glare on small areas totally. "

Thanks for your replies!

Have not had time yet to perform more extensive testing.

On this one occasion today the light from the clouded sky came from a opening in the foliage from a direction that was about thirty degrees above the horizon.

This looks like "the foggy center" -problem discussed in another thread already.

Unpacked my APO 50 yesterday afternoon and gave it a test run,

just around the house, on the MM. It seems perfect and exactly as

expected. Such a tiny thing after the Nocti, it will take a little adapting

to.

Here in South Korea, I received a message from the Leica dealer in Seoul that my order for the Apo 50 of many months ago will arrive toward the end of of July. I do not know how many are coming. I look forward to receiveing, at the same time, it and my M 240 back from Solms where it was sent repair in late June.
