Wow... last time I saw that view I was 6 or 7 years-old with my nose pressed against the glass of an old Morris 10 (I think) .... more than 50 years ago. .... sigh.

What an interesting journey you must have taken from then. It's still jaw droppingly beautiful up the Pennines. I only wish I could convey it in an image. The view from the other side of The Cloud, over flat, flat Cheshire is to be my next attempt.

I think I need to calibrate my monitor brightness or something because the image looks a lot darker on the monitor here at work than at home. Like I say I'm very much a novice.

Lots of new Digilux 2esque pictures on the thread. Brilliant, they're great. The toddler in the brown cardigan is sooooooo Digilux 2 it could have "Taken with a Digilux 2" written across it and it wouldn't look any more D2ish. The way it shows the detail of the cardigan is wonderful.

jees .... and you didn't have to fly 3000 miles :D

well John ..... i'll see your Naples shot and raise you another Venice shot .... (and i don't mean Venice, CA).....

OK.... well one more of the Naples Bay Marina. Then a few views of my backyard... No frequent flier miles, though... these were shot about 25 steps from our backdoor. :)

The portrait of Alessandra is stunning. Well done.

I agree, the focus on the eyes and the amount of depth of field is just right, and the skin tones are also spot on!

Is it me, or are the photos in this thread getting better and better? I am trying to come up with a worthy one, but the bar keeps getting raised :D.

First time out with with Digilux 2. What can I say, I'm so impressed with ease of use and handling and more importantly with accuracy and subtlety of colours. I've not seen this with any of my past compacts or DSLRs.

Took time out yesterday to visit Barry Island, a somewhat run down seaside resort and pleasure park recently shot to fame in the hit BBC comedy series 'Gavin and Stacey'. Its only 12 miles from where I live but have not been there for years. Its a rather sad place this time of the year, but was a cold but sunny day with just a few people around - in the summer it will be crowded with people on a diet of candy floss and chips.

Nessa's slots- This is the Arcade where Nessa works in the series

Cheap 'fashion' accessories

Fun Harbour coin slot arcade - love the pink!

Closed and overgrown Pleasure Park - may not open again - ever.

The Digilux 2 handled the hard sunny lighting and shadows beautifully, and the colours like I have not seen before. Needless to say my Nikon gear is on flea-bay next week - never thought I'd be 'downgrading' to 5MP.

Added a little colour but a nice shot, second straight from the camera in low light.

Nigel,

That's what the D2 is about! Try converting to B&W too. Sea-side out of season is a special UK thing.

I was at Barry Island 40 years ago shooting a feature on the steam locos in the scrap yard (any still there?).

The railway scrap yard was a favourite haunt for photographers, all those rusting relics. We saw tons of rusting train shots in camera clubs around Wales for years - but no more, and the scrap yard is now cleared.

Some of my work is B&W, have been working the Rhondda Valleys in monochrome with my D-Lux4, but only had the D2 a few days. I'm not a people photographer.

In the case of my pictures above all are JPGs, 100 ISO, the first picture of the kiddies rides is straight out of the camera, the rest have had minimal treatment limited to small tweaks to shadows/highlights or levels in CS2 - absolutely no changes to colours or saturation. I always apply minimal post procesing to my images. I have produced A4 test prints and they are immaculate but I don't believe full A3 prints will be possible to my liking, we shall see. If that is the case then I will be happy to print smaller with this camera and still be happy with the images.

are you guys (specifically john and nigel as the shots are so vibrant) shooting jpg out of the cam? how much post processing and what sort, if you wouldn't mind. There are some great shots in here!

For the most part I usually lower the brightness and raise the exposure.... but ever so slight. To be honest, I might process some images different than others. I like blue skies... so I might saturate it bit more. And, twilight shots will benefit from slight tweaking... but the Digilux 2 images are so good right from the camera, . Flesh tones from the camera are unrivaled. Of course, like any digital image, I use a slight amount of sharpening.

RAW (other than low light experiments) is pointless with this camera. The JPEGs are that good.

I have printed 20x30 from Digilux 2 files.
