Steve737 Posted December 7, 2012 Share #1 Posted December 7, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi As a leica newbe i have just ordered the new M with a 50 mm summilux, but i m looking to order also a 28 or 35 as wider lens. As already owning an X2, would 28mm (cron) be a better option or is there still so much difference between the X2 and 35 lux ? All info is very very welcome Many thanks, Steve

IkarusJohn Posted December 7, 2012 Share #2 Posted December 7, 2012 50 & 28 is my most used lightweight combination.
farnz Posted December 8, 2012 Share #3 Posted December 8, 2012 Welcome to the forum, Steve! The M will be a full frame camera so the 28 Summicron asph will produce a wider angle of view than your X2 so if you're looking to shoot wide angle the Summicron would be an excellent choice. I can't answer your question about the 35 Summilux vs the X2 because I don't have one. Pete.
Luke_Miller Posted December 8, 2012 Share #4 Posted December 8, 2012 (edited) With my M8.2 the 28mm Summicron was my most used lens. With the M9 I find it too wide for general use. I got the 35mm Summicron for the M9 and that stays on the body. The 35 should duplicate the field of view you are used to on your X2. Steve737 Posted December 10, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted December 10, 2012 Thanks to all for the reply ! I have ordered a 28 summicron. Let's hope my gear will arrive soon, waiting is terrible Regards Steve Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
IkarusJohn Posted December 10, 2012 Share #6 Posted December 10, 2012 The only thing about that lens is the huge, ugly hood. You might like to consider the alternatives, though they are expensive (part 12466 - $369 on eBay, and $359 from Popflash)
jaapv Posted December 10, 2012 Share #7 Posted December 10, 2012 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Not That expensive if you get a Heavystar hood. Edited December 10, 2012 by jaapv
michali Posted December 10, 2012 Share #8 Posted December 10, 2012 I've binned the bulky Leica hoods in favour of the Heavystar hoods, which are well made metal screw-in hoods. Could you confirm if any?
michali Posted December 10, 2012 Share #10 Posted December 10, 2012 It's correct, the one I had did extend below the bottom of the camera,it's not a big deal, I think the issue is slightly exaggerated in the smorhun article. The one lens hood that drove me nuts was the rectangular one in my 1st pic. It's just too bulky and cumbersome for such a small lens. It kept getting caught everytime I tried to take the camera out of the bag. It eventually came apart from the retaining clip.
lct Posted December 10, 2012 Share #11 Posted December 10, 2012 Never used mine. I prefer the 12589 by far although its dented ring can be awkward sometimes. Did anybody try the 12587 on the 28/2? 01af Posted December 11, 2012 Share #13 Posted December 11, 2012 The Summicron-M 28 mm Asph is one of the few M lenses today which still come with a decent hood—and you guys do nothing but complain You won't be happy before the last Leica M lens comes with a useless stub of a hood, as so many already do, will you?
IkarusJohn Posted December 11, 2012 Share #14 Posted December 11, 2012 I like them.
wattsy Posted December 11, 2012 Share #15 Posted December 11, 2012 IMO the front of the 28 Summicron should be subtly redesigned in order to take a similar hood to the current 35 Summilux and 21 Super-Elmar. These screw-on hoods are less intrusive, feel sturdier and seem more finely engineered. All in all, a better match for lenses of this class.
jaapv Posted December 11, 2012 Share #16 Posted December 11, 2012 Ditto with the design of the newer wideangle lenses like the Summilixes 21 and 24 - and SE 18. Effective, impact-resistant and screw-on.
IWC Doppel Posted December 16, 2012 Share #17 Posted December 16, 2012 I would love a 12466 for my 28 Summicron but not at £
Bill W Posted December 18, 2012 Share #18 Posted December 18, 2012 Never used mine. I prefer the 12589 by far although its dented ring can be awkward sometimes. Did anybody try the 12587 on the 28/2? I use the 12587 on my 28 and it works perfectly. Not sure what they cost today but I think I paid $98 for mine. Not as cheap as some on ebay but it is Leica.
algrove Posted December 27, 2012 Share #19 Posted December 27, 2012 @lct The protrusion of the 12466 bothers me with the stock Leica base plate on. However, when I attach the RRS base plate (BM9- for QR there is no protrusion,
