I wanted to tell all of you that I tried out an M two weeks ago. Yes, it is a very nice rangefinder. I wouldn't mind spending $7K for a rangefinder that would blow my M8.2 away but this isn't it! Leaving for Europe in three weeks with above named camera body and three lenses. Can't wait.

I agree it doesn't blow the M8's rangefinder away but side by side my M's RF is easier to nail focus with my Noctilux than my M8's RF. And then there's the much quieter shutter, the vastly improved high ISO performance, and the ability to use R and other SLR lenses and that's what made the decision easy for me. YMMV.:)

Thank you for your response which I appreciate. First of all, I don't have a Noct, however I will agree it was easier to nail focus with my 50 Lux ASPH, but still... The quieter shutter would have been appreciated eight years ago when the M8 was introduced but then again, it didn't seem to slow anyone down much. The high ISO...maybe, but once again we all seemed to do just fine before this was introduced! The ability to use SLR lenses? Seriously man, it makes the M into a large DSLR, which if I want to use something that big I have my D800 with which I have the finest Zeiss glass available. IMHO, the M isn't there yet. Maybe the next iteration?

C'mon John. Resistance is futile. You know deep in your heart you want one.

Yes it makes the setup larger than an M with M lenses but with a D800 you're carrying around an extra camera (or leaving the M at home and just lugging the D800 plus SLR lenses). I can carry the superb M wide angles, a Noctilux, and an 80 Summilux-R (or a host of other lens brands of choice) and just one body. I'm not trying to convince you - even if I could:D - I'm just pointing out the convenience.:)

There is some truth to that statement :) Yeah, I'm probably protesting a bit too much! I certainly did like my 24 Elmar-M ASPH on FF.

There's an easy answer, available now.

It's quiet, small, unobtrusive... focuses all manual lenses... can be adapted to most mounts... includes in-camera corrections for lens vignetting, corner color drifts... has excellent high-ISO performance to 6400... auto white balance that actually works,,, a built-in EVF with 5 ms lag time (that's .005 sec)... 14-bit dynamic range giving you blue skies AND shadow detail... and costs less than $1000 US brand-new.

It's the Fuji X-E2.

With Fuji's M-mount adapter, it mounts M-lenses and can be set to correct for their vignetting and corner color shifts with one button press. It's smaller than a Leica M. I haven't seen any blatant corner focus-smearing with the 15mm f/4.5 SW Heliar, 21mm f/2.8 Elmarit-M ASPH, 25mm f/2.8 Biogon T*, or 35mm f/2 Summicron-M ASPH. There's none with anything 50mm or longer. It doesn't use an AA filter or Bayer filter, so images have a sharper 'look' - you get all the micro-contrasty sharpness of M-lenses like the 35mm Summicron-M ASPH.

Yes, it's an APS-C camera with a 1.5X crop factor. It's also a great companion for an M8.

My set reads like this now:

Leica M8, Fuji X-E1, Fuji X-T1 and about 6 nice lenses.

That's absolutely perfect for me.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I already tried the M adapter thingy with an NEX-7. Not going that route again - and I'm certain the Fuji is a great camera and all that, but I'd probably get an M before anything else. BTW, I had an M9-P and while it was a great looking camera body, it couldn't touch the M8.2 for bw output. I sold it. While I had the M (rental) I was happy with the bw conversions (and yes I already tried a Monochrom, too much sugar for a dime as we used to say in Texas).

And to stay on topic - if my M8.2 croaked I would buy another in heartbeat. There is just something about that camera that pushes all my buttons.

I know what you mean, I acquired another a couple of months ago after foolishly trading mine a couple of years ago.

I still love my M8 (original, no updates at all).

And love my Summicron 35 vIII too.
