Nice M4's.  The last photo looks like a clone of mine except I have "50 jahre" on the front next to the rangefinder window.  Honestly, I could be happy with just about any film M but the M4 and the M2 are my favorites.  I would love a black paint body but my bank account would not.

Long live Leica film cameras!

I'm in the market for a spot meter and recently came across the Reveni but - I have to say, - it looks really cheap.  I don't know what the case is made from, but it looks terrible.  It might work well but it does not look like a quality product IMHO.  Maybe the next iteration will actually look like it's ready for prime time.  As it is, it looks like an early mockup.

Well for a hike with LF gear the spotmeter is a welcome cut on weight, but I can’t see from here that it can work reliable in pinpointing the right spot

Reveni meters are 3D printed nylon and are quite accurate. The one on my M4 is the second release with the over/under indicating bars. I also have an original Kickstarter release version on a Retina IIa. For my needs, just B&W film, they are good enough that my Sekonic 308 wasn’t being used. The biggest problem is battery life, so I carry a spare. The tiny buttons take some getting used to but it has a wide ISO range and can be calibrated to a known meter. I like them better than the Domos and other VC clones because I find the OLED display easier to read and I only have to look up from the viewfinder to see it. They may not be for everyone but I’m happy with mine.

During your research did you have an opinion on the M4-P? Thanks.

😊

I'm not Tomsmac, just long time lover of Leica M using them for decades.

A thread for M4-P lovers

I love M4-P

my opinion on M4-P

One of the most reliable Leica M that I came across, with some features added to plain M4,

28mm framelines with 90, hot shoe, motorized or leicavit-M usable from start, steel gears, less smooth feeling, less selftimer.

Hi everyone, i was offered an M4 chrome, it has never been CLa’ed from the seal was still intact

condition wise is very mint and probably have little use, but it works normal

is that a risk to get it? Since CLA service not easily accessible here…

If it has actually never been serviced, and has had very little use, yes there is a risk that once you start using it something could go wrong … shutter issues, sticky framelines, etc. There is always a risk - it’s a 50 year old camera. You wouldn’t drive a car that had never been serviced and expect no problems.

If the price is good, buy it, use it, and find somewhere to send it for service when you are ready. For example http://www.kantocamera.com/english/repair/request.html

Good luck!

I’m having my third M4 now, never had any problems with any of them. Incredibly stable equipment, not even small but detectable shutter time deviations.

Thanks mate for the insight, that’s what i been thinking like, could this 50 yo cam stand a chance without being rubbed or anything internally, i’d take into great consideration

shipping out of the country could be more problematic i want to avoid while domestically i havent known anyone capable of doing since the last trustable man standing had had his time not so long ago

I think that "never done CLAed M4"  is only valid for collectors who will never use the M4.

With so many M4 that passed in my hands, I know that M4 do need "adjustment/repair" from time to time,

using or not.

My first Leica M was M4 bought second hand in the 1970's, this one was used many years without needing for repair/CLAed.

When the M4 needed to be repaired/CLAed, I changed my mind as the cost was very high (I accept better now the 10 or more hours of job).

I tried to go to other Ms (M5/M6/M2/M3/etc.) over time, but in use my nostalgy goes to M4 and I bought them when I could many units.

First love never die, even if none of my "late M4" was trouble-free.

If the price is ok then get it and use it. You may find that the shutter is a bit sticky but that may be from lack of use. I inherited an M2 which had not been used for years. At first the slow speeds were sticky but after some exercising they are ok now.

I don’t know what difference the climate in your country would have on a camera that has not been used for a long time, compared to European countries.

”if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”.
