doubice Posted September 29, 2007 Share #181 Posted September 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear Justin, I stand corrected.... Many, many years ago, I sent my battered IIIb to Wetzlar and they serviced it. Mind you, this was in the late 1970's and Leitz did a fantastic service on the camera. marke Posted October 2, 2007 Share #182 Posted October 2, 2007 Okay, here's mine. After picking up a Zorki 1e last month, I started to see the attraction of the LTM. So last week I won a bid on ebay and the camera arrived yesterday. BTW, has anyone ever seen a strap like this before?
wlaidlaw Posted October 2, 2007 Share #183 Posted October 2, 2007 Okay, here's mine. After picking up a Zorki 1e last month, I started to see the attraction of the LTM. So last week I won a bid on ebay and the camera arrived yesterday. BTW, has anyone ever seen a strap like this before? Mark, I remember my father's IIIC had an identical strap. The leather looks like Leica leather but it may have been an after-market part. In Germany and to a lesser extent in other countries, from the 1930's to the 1960's there was a whole industry making after-market parts for Leicas. I would treat your strap with leather restorer, as it may have become rather dry over the years. If you need a replacement bit of leather, as it has become unsafely cracked or dry, Luigi at Leicatime Luigi Crescenzi : leica cameras leica compur mp elmar 250 reporter leicavit makes lovely straps. I have one of his both on my M8 and IIF. Wilson
Guest flatfour Posted October 2, 2007 Share #184 Posted October 2, 2007 Mark - I had one of these straps with my III when I acquired it but it was badly cut almost halfway (sods law) so I gave it to a friend. As for the leather I use Antiquax leather cream on straps and cases. Seems to work and is nicely of the period.

Dear Luigi, Yes, that is a Leicavit under the IIIg. Here is a better picture of the strap. I have seen a number of them over the years, but only with Leica equipment. Even though I have never found these straps listed in Leica sales material I suspect they were made by Leitz. The treatment of the strap is identical to the straps attached to never-ready cases. hektor Posted October 4, 2007 Share #191 Posted October 4, 2007 Funny... me and you live at almost opposite points of the Earth... and our Elmars 2,8 TM are less than 100 numbers far !! (1.627.0xx mine - meter scale too) Luigi, I think that might be because I bought the lens second-hand in Europe. It was then sent to Leica Service Department for a CLA. Remember our lenses are made in 1958 when I was still running around in short pants!
IIIcK Posted November 3, 2007 Share #192 Posted November 3, 2007 New to this Forum, but have been an LTM user since the '60's, and currently use a IIIcK (1945) with its original Elmar 50/2 along with a IIIg, 5xIIIc (1933-1947), 3xIIIf, 2xIIa, 2xIIIa and an M3 (using LTM lenses).. One of the II's is an "N-L" marked. I have taken to repairing my own cameras and do all my own CLA's. What impresses me most about the LTM's are their incredible robust construction and ease of use. I love these cameras....
leicastuff Posted November 3, 2007 Share #193 Posted November 3, 2007 These are mine, the 111f and 11 needed new shutter curtains, Leica in Milton Keynes did the 11, some guy in London (can't remember the name) did the 111f. This was about three or four years ago. I probably use the 11 the most. You really get used to them if you use them alot. You can wind the shutter and set speeds by feel whilst it's in your pocket, and I can now load the camera whilst walking.

Aoresteen Posted November 25, 2007 Share #200 Posted November 25, 2007 I use a Leica IIIF RD with the 15mm & 21mm CV lenses and a Leicavit. I've had up to 5 of them from a If to a IIIg. Sold them all except the IIIF RD to pay for an M3-MOT & motor. It now has the 21mm attached most of the time with a Leicavit. Here I'm at Epcot with a IIIg with 85mm f/2 Nikkor & Leicavit, a IIIF with the 21mm CV & Leicavit, and my M4-P with the 28mm Ultron & Leica Motor M. I'd like to get a 50mm f/2.8 Elmar for the IIIf next. Welcome, dear visitor!
