hektor Posted February 1, 2019 Share #11942 Posted February 1, 2019 (edited) Good morning John. Not from the early sixties and not an Alvis. In coachbuilt terms there were many made. Edited February 1, 2019 by hektor

IkarusJohn Posted February 2, 2019 Share #11949 Posted February 2, 2019 Pretty. Alfa was my next thought, but I felt I was starting to make wild guesses.
Rona!d Posted February 3, 2019 Share #11950 Posted February 3, 2019 Hektor, I love both colors. Original color always to be preferred. Most 1900s are such beauties, a collector could create a complete museum with only 1900 models (through all series and designers). Unfortunately that could cost a bit 😉

wlaidlaw Posted February 3, 2019 Share #11952 Posted February 3, 2019 Lancia D50 - the only F1 car I can think of with pannier tanks, other than the Shannon SH1 and that is much later. Wilson

Sadly, like many cars, its looks belie its performance. Furthermore I found it a bit of a "truck" (lorry) to drive.

Furthermore I found it a bit of a "truck" (lorry) to drive. Hektor, I think this sort of Alfa used to be described as having a body which wrote cheques, its engine could not cash. We had the larger engined Alfa B2500S model with a 2 seater roadster De Mola body and although very pretty, not great to drive. I too don't remember the D50 having a grille under the screen but cars got modified from race to race at that time and I cannot think of any other car in that period with pannier tanks. The regular one did have two bonnet scoops and I wondered if the rear scoop might have had a grille put over it at some time. There is also the D50 assembled from unused and repaired parts in the 1990's by my friend Anthony Maclean. Did the Lancia Ferrari 812 successor to the D50, ever run with the pannier tanks, I don't think so. Wilson PS The other car which had side tanks was the Bugatti 251 but did it ever run long enough for anyone to take a photo of it? Rona!d Posted February 3, 2019 Share #11956 Posted February 3, 2019 Not a D50 (be it Lancia or Ferrari), also not a Bugatti. The Alfa 1900s look nicer than they perform. In their todays use that doesn‘t count much, except it reimains a truck and most women would prefer a later Gulietta Spider at classic car events.
