elansprint72 Posted July 19, 2010 Author Share #248 Posted July 19, 2010 I don't think it is any of the above and I can't think of any British car manufacturer who started up in 1932, most were closing down!
kkochheiser Posted July 19, 2010 Share #249 Posted July 19, 2010 Riley is about all I can think of but they were around well before 1932. The rad looks a bit like one though. Kent

J_Thompson Posted July 19, 2010 Share #252 Posted July 19, 2010 1932 SS1, built by SS Cars, Ltd. The company ceased production during the war and was renamed Jaguar in 1945. Neal was close, but the car wasn't an Austin. LuxBob is correct as Lyons was a co-founder of the company, and the car was named SS. Take it away, LuxBob! Welcome, dear visitor! LuxBob Posted July 21, 2010 Share #253 Posted July 21, 2010 Apologies if I have answered this twice but not often that I get things right - my wife will never believe it. I have a photo in mind, taken on my iphone (permissible?) but it might take until tonight to locate it. I had thought that Neal had it right with the Swallow. Was there not a connection between Swallow and SS? Was it Lyons himself?
elansprint72 Posted July 21, 2010 Author Share #254 Posted July 21, 2010 ............ I have a photo in mind, taken on my iphone (permissible?) but it might take until tonight to locate it. i-Phone?!!!! I think we are sailing pretty close to the forum "etiquette rules" already (given the discussions elsewhere on whether this place should be a repository for Fine Art photos or snaps). William Lyons started a company called Swallow Sidecars in Blackpool UK; this went on to manufacture cars under the SS name, until that moniker began to have dark connotations some years later and they changed to Jaguar. LuxBob Posted July 22, 2010 Share #257 Posted July 22, 2010 Mmmm...looks kinda French, maybe a Citroen? Sam Perfect, yes, it is a Citroen. Snapped at a garage full of cars of all sorts of ages on the road between Arlon and Bastogne in Belgium. It would be nice to pass by again when I have more time and do some justice to the many cars just standing around.

LuxBob Posted July 23, 2010 Share #259 Posted July 23, 2010 I can only think of what it isn't; Singer - too up-market, Hispano-Suiza - not sporty enough. It's that radiator that tells the story but not to me.
