Good Grief! Talk about being whacked with the Ugly Stick on the Way Out. Given the choice I'd rather have the scooter.

P.

The Bentley is nothing like as ugly as the gargoyle that is the Rolls Royce Cullinan. It looks like a 1980's Jeep Cherokee with an RR grille glued on the front. I had a puncture in my Panamera last year when visiting friends in the Auvergne and had to have the car trucked from my hotel to the nearest Porsche/Audi/Bentley dealer. It turned out they did not have any 21 inch Pirellis in stock, so it would be the next day before they could give me my car back. All their regular courtesy cars were out. I thought I was going to have to hire or use taxis for the day, when they said: "Would it be OK if you were to use our Bentayga demonstrator for the day". "Oh let me think for a minute, yes I could just about force myself to do that". I generally don't like SUV's one little bit but the Bentayga was very impressive but exceedingly thirsty. I only did just under 100km and I had to put in over 25 litres to get the gauge back to where it was when I collected it on the previous day. Compared to the 8.5L/100km I average from my hybrid Panamera, its economy is dreadful.

There a few Bentaygas to be seen on the roads here.

I agree that it is not as ugly as the Cullinan, which is truly awful.

I covet neither. I drove a VW Touareg for a few years. Of its type, it is an excellent vehicle.

I had to Google Rolls-Royce Cullinan to find out what it was and now wish I hadn't, as some things can't be unseen.  Why someone would pay that sort of money for something uglier than a Ssang Yong is beyond me.  I can see the resemblance to a 1980s Jeep, but my initial reaction was that it looked like a rather squarish London Taxi.

Nice photo, but an ugly car!  Though perhaps not quite as bad as a Cullinan :)

I submit that in this case ugly is only as ugly does..................meaning that we have to bear in mind that the GT1 was designed primarily to compete in the FIA GT1 class, which mandated that the race cars built by a manufacturer in that class had to have a specified ( 20, I believe)  number of road-legal counterparts that could be purchased by the public. The race car was a highly researched and wind tunnel developed Weissach combination of Porsche 993, 911 and 962 elements which, during its lifetime was entered in a total of 133 races, winning 47 of them - not at all ugly.

The FIA further specified that the road versions could not deviate significantly from the racing version, which goes a long way to explain why they perhaps looked a little awkward at a useful and acceptable riding height, and with all the legal acoutrements required for licensing for the street.

A good friends 1997 GT1, class winner of that years Daytona 24 Hours.

It's really not much different from an F-1 car with a body and a little less reliance on downforce,.............rear view with the carbonfiber bodywork removed.

3.2 liter mid-engined flat six with H2O-cooled four-valve heads, making approx. 500-600 HP depending on state of tune.

Outstanding. I honestly thought it would take a little longer for someone to identify this..............but you're spot on - a six-cylinder BMW 501. The 502s were the same car, except they were the first postwar German cars to be powered by a V8.

I'm impressed. You're up,
