stuny Posted March 11, 2019 Share #12101 Posted March 11, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hektor, as is often the case is onto something. This company was founded in 1899 and initially made steam powered cars of limited range and limited reliability. They produced variations on this model for more than 1 1/2 decades. John Z. Goriup Posted March 12, 2019 Share #12102 Posted March 12, 2019 The only name that comes to mind is STUTZ JZG
willeica Posted March 12, 2019 Share #12103 Posted March 12, 2019 Mercer Raceabout 35. William
stuny Posted March 12, 2019 Share #12104 Posted March 12, 2019 John - Not Stutz. this one is a bit less well known, and after they stopped making steam powered cars their cars were accepted as high quality and higher end. It's name at first seems odd and ill chosen until one considers the roots of the name.
stuny Posted March 13, 2019 Share #12105 Posted March 13, 2019 William - Not Mercer. The first half of the four syllable name of the manufacturer is crazy.

So it wouldn't be stu - debaker then? 😊(This isn't an attempt to guess the answer - I don't know anything about cars!)
stuny Posted March 13, 2019 Share #12107 Posted March 13, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) John - Good to hear from you, cars or not. . And no, not a Stu-debaker -- BTW: That firm used to make horse drawn wagons.
NigelG Posted March 13, 2019 Share #12108 Posted March 13, 2019 I think it’s a “Loco”motive because of the pun but I don’t know their models - anyone?
stuny Posted March 13, 2019 Share #12109 Posted March 13, 2019 The first half of the manufacturer's name is "Loco," probably because of "locomotives."
Michael Hiles Posted March 13, 2019 Share #12110 Posted March 13, 2019 Evidently a Locomobile - more than the odd name I know nothing.
hektor Posted March 13, 2019 Share #12111 Posted March 13, 2019 Another clue frinds. It is in a museum in Nelson, New Zealand.
stuny Posted March 14, 2019 Share #12112 Posted March 14, 2019 Michael has the manufacturer, and Hektor has given two clues with its start and run of manufacture for this model, and the location of the car pictured.
Michael Hiles Posted March 15, 2019 Share #12113 Posted March 15, 2019 I am not sure if it is my turn - but I have no stock of deeply ambiguous pictures of cars I never heard of. So I abdicate (if I were ever in line).
stuny Posted March 15, 2019 Share #12114 Posted March 15, 2019 We have Locomobile and approximate date. How about a model?

How about "Speedster". Locomobile Speedster Not only touted as the most expensive car in America in its day but also the best built, Locomobiles were renowned for their reliability in an age where mechanical woes were common. The company’s slogan was ‘four cars a day’ to stress the drive for quality rather than simply churning out cars, and each Locomobile was tested strenuously to ensure its reliability before being sold. Most Locomobile chassis were fitted with limousine coachwork but some like this one were adorned with speedster bodies. Its 8.6-litre six-cylinder engine was good for 67kW.
