Hektor, as is often the case is onto something.

This company was founded in 1899 and initially made steam powered cars of limited range and limited reliability.  They produced variations on this model for more than 1 1/2 decades.

John -

Not Stutz.  this one is a bit less well known, and after they stopped making steam powered cars their cars were accepted as high quality and higher end.  It's name at first seems odd and ill chosen until one considers the roots of the name.

William - Not Mercer.

The first half of the four syllable name of the manufacturer is crazy.

So it wouldn't be stu - debaker then? 😊(This isn't an attempt to guess the answer - I don't know anything about cars!)

We have Locomobile and approximate date.  How about a model?

Dear Stuart, this one has become painful.  How about "Speedster".

Locomobile Speedster

Not only touted as the most expensive car in America in its day but also the best built, Locomobiles were renowned for their reliability in an age where mechanical woes were common. The company’s slogan was ‘four cars a day’ to stress the drive for quality rather than simply churning out cars, and each Locomobile was tested strenuously to ensure its reliability before being sold. Most Locomobile chassis were fitted with limousine coachwork but some like this one were adorned with speedster bodies. Its 8.6-litre six-cylinder engine was good for 67kW.

Dear Stuart,

I wanted to give the others a go as I seem to name more than my fair share.  Later in the day I will post a photo as I am about to drive a daughter to school right now.

Kind regards

Hektor
