Which One are You?

After several years of Leica forum participation I've come to realize that there are several categories of Leica religionists on this forum. Which One Are You?

1. Orthodox Leica of the Strict Observance. This level of Leica religion does not allow any use of photographic equipment that is not strictly Leica including such items but not limited to lens filters, cable releases, camera cases, etc.

2. Orthodox Leica. This level of Leica religion adheres to the observance of Leica lenses and cameras only, everything else (i.e. a Luigi half case) is permitted, but must be in good taste.

3. Conservative Leica. This level of Leica religion allows for the use of mixed equipment, i.e. a Leica Camera attached to a Zeiss lens, and vice a versa. Although the Reformed category is more lax, it maintains a commitment to the use of Leica gear in one form or another, every photo taken must have some direct connection to the use of some form of Leica gear.

4. Reformed Leica. This level of Leica worship makes every effort to involve some form of Leica equipment in every photograph taken but if none is available, the adherents of this practice will not be cast into the shadows where the light for photography does not reach..

5. Humanist Agnostic Leica. This level of Leica philosophy (they repudiate the use of the word religion) leans toward the use of Leica gear but will mix and match equipment with no regard to purity codes at all. They believe Leica gear might be best, but maybe not.

6. Atheist Leica. This category of Leica user will use Leica gear if available to them but don't really believe there is such a thing as a true Leica (since so many parts in Leica gear these days come from other companies) therefore they don't really care what they use as long as they get the shot.

Wilfredo,

LEICA is for me a tool only.

ok, a very fine tool, but that's it.

I like the medium PHOTOGRAPHY :)

I would put you in category # 5, but of course this is not a scientifically validated category, none of them

are :-).

What's the category for someone who loves the way Leica M glass draws, grudgingly puts up with M8 and IR/Cut Filters, is thoroughly p***ed off by not getting an R10 for his superb R glass, and occasionally prefers the square format Hassi anyway? 14a)?:)

It sounds like your closest match is that of Reformed Leica :-) # 4.

Five.

A lot of my photos this year are on G1, Bronica SQ-A, RB67 and Nikon F1

Ravi,

Beware, you can easily slip into becoming an apostate if you are not careful. I should have added that as category # 7 but I didn't so I will do it now.

7. LEICA APOSTATE, These are those who after having owned Leica gear, have abandoned all use of Leica gear and want nothing to do with Leica anymore. Anathema!

#2 -- I am exclusively film and LTM-- IIIg, IIIf, II. Sometimes I use a new half-case, always a VC or Sekonic exposure meter. The threads fell out of my Eveready cases and the Selenium cells in my Leica meters quit working so it's not my fault, otherwise I'd be a #1...
