That is a beautiful black M2, JM! Is it repainted? What happened to the serial number and the type of M2 engraving?

Lex

Thank you Lex.

The only repainted parts are the strap lugs and the shutter speed button. The rest are original M2 and MP spare parts. No idea  why the top cover came this way without any serial number  !

Best, JM.

By the way, David Douglas Duncan loved Leica bodies but used Nikon lenses on them.

Only during his time reporting on the Korean War.  When Leitz introduced its post-war lenses he returned to the fold.

Why do you bother about non-Leica lenses that people enjoy using? Different lenses have different characters and many of us like to work with those options. I am very happy that this possibility exists, since using a Leica body doesn't force us to only use Leitz/Leica lenses but instead gives us the freedom to work with other material as well. Lex

He used the very best the market had to offer, back then. He wasn’t into any “funleader” and “ttartisans” kinda stuff just for the hipster style.

Very nice! Most of the artificially brassed cameras don’t look realistic to me, but this is very well done.  Can you share who did the painting/brassing?

It was done by a master painter in S.Korea. Technically it’s not fully repainted & weathered by sandpaper afterward like the most. But the “weathered” parts are painted with airbrush to make it look more naturally worn down.

I want to love my M2 but it's just frustrating even after multiple visits to DAG. Somehow the old Barnacks just always more or less work.

I had an M2 for 14 years and never had any problems ever. Sorry for your problems.

I've got an M2-KS-15 produced in 1966. It is the modified version with the M4 VF, 28-135, and fast loading system. It's beautiful black repaint.

Any photos of the camera ?!

I am surprised, particular after servicing by Don Goldberg.  My first M2, which I still have, was bought at a discount when the M4 was introduced.  It has been to Wetzlar approximately every ten years for a CLA and has never failed.  I have film in it at the moment.  The other M2 also operated without fault until part traded on a later M.  Sherry Krauter also serviced an M2 for me when in New York and did a great job.  May I suggest you send it to Wetzlar.

Does Wetzlar still service M2's?
