berthram Posted September 28, 2009 Share #123 Posted September 28, 2009 Just bought and saved my second M2 escape from being dismantled for parts: was a "blacked" RF one, repaired by myself saving his original silver coating...I love it! lincoln_m Posted January 26, 2010 Share #124 Posted January 26, 2010 Hi, Hopefully tomorrow I'll be joining this group of M2 owner lovers. I think I'm now a collector as this will be 6th Leica camera I have bought since 2001. My current collection is just 4 cameras as the Leica mini-zoom and M6TTL have been sold some time ago leaving an MP chrome, M7 black, Minilux titanium and now M2 chrome. The M2 is the same age as me and if I'm to believe the pics from the shop better looking. I'll post some pics when I've checked it out assuming it is a keeper. Looking back was I really that hard up that I part-ex the mini-zoom to fund the Minilux. It was my first Leica and had to have a light leak fixed by Leica but worked well after. I sold the M6TTL (that I took to the Himalayas/Nepal) to fund the black M7. The M2 will be used for TMAX-400 use as I hope I can remember how to guess the f-stop without a meter for print film. MP will be used for slide film and M7 for Velvia/TMAX or when I need the TTL Flash. Regards, Lincoln

lincoln_m Posted January 27, 2010 Share #126 Posted January 27, 2010 So here it is. I can't believe how good condition it is for over 40 years. It must have had very light use. Of course the 50f2.8 is much newer. Lincoln Welcome, dear visitor! knmork Posted February 5, 2010 Share #129 Posted February 5, 2010 [ ... The M2 is the same age as me and if I'm to believe the pics from the shop better looking. ... Regards, Lincoln hello all, had to smile, some extra, when i read Lincolns post, as i was fortunate enough to inherit a whole Leica/Leitz kit last summer, including a very little used M2, w/ 35, 50 (the sweet beauty Elmar) & 90mm, 2 Leicameters &c & a Leitz Trinovid (10x40b). & surprise, surprise, the M2 & i are also the same age. she's bought in Copenhagen, though, a few months before i was born across the Skagerrak, in Norway. but i will stress: very little used - the M2, not me - and as all you connoisseurs know, that was her problem. as i understand (from talking to a couple of guys in the best photo shop in Oslo), the grease(?) used for the shutter demands USE, or it'll dry out & cause problems for the shutter mechanism. i don't know excactly why the man i inherited it from (mother's cousin) stopped using it. he was not talkative & quite shy, but as he always had taste for quality, i was very surprised when i heard what the problem was, having seen the other rubbish (compared to the M2) cameras he had, older & younger. i'll bring this to a conclusion: living in Norway there's really only one repairman & he's located in Bergen, on the other side of our biggest mountains from where i live. but EVENTUALLY, after months of waiting, she's finally ready to be picked up! & i'm (hopefully) going next week! can't wait! & i, like fellow Lincoln, will (hopefully) post a pic or two, to be part of this lovely M2-family. so long, km ps. Erik van Straten: your M2 no39 is a gorgeous storytelling jewel! my almost pristine soon-to-be mistress will maybe in MY lifetime, reach a quarter of yours, if i love her properly: intense & 24/7. ds

knmork Posted February 11, 2010 Share #131 Posted February 11, 2010 (edited) ok, here she is (see my previous post). at last my 40 year old, but extremely little used M2 was ready for pick up. Antonio Stasi in Bergen, Norway had to change the shutter curtains, but now the beautiful sound of a Leica M2 is back! Welcome, dear visitor! FiZZ Posted May 7, 2010 Share #136 Posted May 7, 2010 I don't understand why everyone doesn't carry an M2? I mean think about it. It's simple. It's clean. It has flush windows (which I think are much prettier than the other ones). It has a clean viewfinder. I love my M2. And now that I have an external light meter, I would only buy an M7 as a back-up for the A mode. I think the M2 really is the classic man's rangefinder.
