The M offshoots that I understand are the D series and the monochrome series. Both offer notably different actual uses than the core model.

This rebadged shit for higher prices is what makes my stomach turn about this brand. Not class, but this thing oozes "I am more interested in the look of my tool than in what I make with it."

Safari and Olive Leica M's have been out for ages.

It's personal preference and people have used their cameras to actually take photos.

Let people buy what they like. It's the Leica world, already doesn't make sense, so let people do what they want with their money.

What is the weight of the Safari version? Is it like silver or black M11-P?

Not checked but think it’s like the silver as it has a brass top, like the silver.

The higher price says I have £8000 interest in the camera as a tool, plus £100 interest in how it looks.
Looks reasonable to me.

I read somewhere that the glossy black battery you get with the camera is likely to be unavailable separately. Not sure if that is the official line.

At least with this one you could put a silver battery in without it looking too odd.

Glossy battery available seperately

seem like the safari isn’t a limited production run?

@Al Brown it is brass of course

I like the look of it, except for the cheapo screw that replaces the Red Dot.

However, I won't be buying one. I have enough cameras.

Looks the same as screw they have used since M2 to me!

It is. But it has always looked cheap.

Tradition is tradition. First Safari M was the M4-2 in the 80s if memory serves but Leica made olive green M bodies before that. M4 from the 70s below.

"The cognac-coloured carrying strap shown is not included in the scope of delivery."

Probably for the best as in the picture the strap appears to be placed on backwards, the unfinished side showing when actually carrying the camera. Would hate to have a backward strap!

Nice little promotional film. Interesting to pick up on some comments about rangefinder per se.

It’s funny that he states he keeps his left eye open when using the rangefinder but at the end when he lifts the camera to his eye he closes it🤣

I wonder if the battery that has a green bottom will be hard to obtain and have its own product number.

The bottom of the M11 battery is just a thin metal plate, one side coloured, the other (non-coloured) side glued to the battery. Leica could make available these plates on special request in order to be able to modify a standard black or silver battery...

The front side and the top look great. But the back side with the black buttons and screen frame is IMHO a very severe design flaw.

That's why I would consider an M11-D Safari way more beautiful (with a silver ISO dial).

By the way, where's Jono's review?

Leica's first over $10,000 USD M camera. 🤑

USD dropped rather … and with a weak usd it’s going to be like that more and more … before eventual import tariffs

He sent me a copy of his review to share with you....

"Photos are the same as M11, M11-P & M11-D, but the green colour is quite funky"

Hope that helps.

It looks really good but don’t understand why all the images show a cognac strap but the scope of the delivery states “black”. The cognac strap looks really good.

Didn't expect that

The strap is from the M11-D accessories, and it was also shown but not delivered with the D.

What a pity about the black buttons on the back. Makes it look so bitsy. That would drive me crazy.

The back looks just as weird with the silver buttons floating on the black. At least the M11-P doesn't have as much black plastic on the back as the M10-P did.
