Not really

A window? What for? The EVF-M is not supposed to be another Jurassic camera. The digital CL had no window either and looked like a Barnack sort of. The EVF-M (M11-V?), if any, will have more success hopefully.

Can't compare the possible success. The CL had to develop its own stable of lenses.

No frameline to mimic OVF but the same kind of frameline as the M11 for perspective control is to be expected i guess, another way of viewing outside the frame.

I don't understand what you are saying here, an EVF camera will not "see outside of the frame"..........It only sees what the sensor sees, no more no less.

Curious to source of LeicaRumorsi claim about beta Fotos app showing the M11-V option. I’ve updated and checked my Fotos app, using add camera and nothing new shows. if there a beta version of the app, I’m assuming it’s only for select testers (and leakers)?

Also wondering if anyone has ever used a Pixii? Their website says the camera has focus assist, but doesn’t go into detail how on their website. It looks more like an overlay of digital info than a full EVF screen.

Of course 🤦‍♂️. I need coffee. The more I read, the more I think it will be a standard EVF experience but built in.

Yes, just like the add-on EVF but without the add-on element!

Exactly…but the second set of purported viewfinder images on the rumor site show a set of frame lines - could this be an inbuilt crop like the Q ?🫢

I don't quite understand how this effect was achieved. Is there really another camera with a micro lens in the front that produces a second image and is positioned offset like a rangefinder?

The camera brings up digital framelines within the frame of the EVF. If you have an M11, just activate perspective control and you will see what i mean.

Sometimes its difficult to replicate optical systems with electronic ones. One of the fundamental differences between an RF viewfinder and (d)SLR or EVF is the'overview' of a scene showing what is outside the frame as well as what is within it. Its a unique characteristic which has served the M well for a long time, although it too has its limitations in terms of wide angles, which need auxilliary viewfinders, smallness of longer focal length frames and inevitably lacks accuracy for precise framing. I've been using a mix of EVF and RF cameras a lot recently. My view is that they are very different in operation. Adding the limitations of lenses to an EVF-M still seems an awkward way to go to me, just to retain a lens mount and body shape. That said, I can see limitations as being useful in some ways, so perhaps they will suit some photographers. But I remain to be convinced.

Does it seem correct that Leica executives have been internally trying to address how and when they will cross the $10,000.00 USD line for an M camera?
I mean they omitted the more expensive brass from the top of the M11 black (for saving$?), and the M11-D flirted with 10K. This will ease them over the 10k mark and then the M12 will be similarly priced. My guess. Thoughts?
Thanks,
Mark

…or like the Q »frame lines« – both mean cropping the full frame JPG file. The DNG file of course stays uncropped.

My thought is that some of Leica’s developments are also about improving margins on their products (aluminium instead of brass). Which they cant be blamed for because that's economical logic but if Leica »improves« the M in that matter it probably has some kind of »break even« when it will start be not a M anymore.

To me the whole M with EVF topic is more a Q with M-mount topic but than they would have to sell it in a Q price range or even below because it has no autofocus. 😜

Supposed the rumored "M11-V" is real, an ancillary OVF is a good idea ... personally, I appreciated the "Fuji solution" quoted by Al Brown (don't have, but had the opportunity to test it) . It adds a cost 🤒... but could make me to think seriously to have the first new Leica after my M240.

Fortunately they would still remain below the £10,000 line. 😉

Leicas are sold in countries that use different currencies. Pity the poor Japanese and the figures they must pay.

I have no experience with the Q. Can you see outside of the framelines with it?

A Q with an M mount would not be a Q anymore since it is a fixed lens camera. As an M-mount camera, the EVF-M is supposed to be part of the M system the same way as other M cameras... including for price, I'm afraid, but I have no info about that.

Yes, one can see the area surrounding the frame lines without any magnification.

I don't know if this topic has been addressed (couldn't read thru all 48 pages of this apparently popular post), but the big advantage of the EVF is to avoid VF blockage by large lenses.  Especially true for large aperture and wide angle lenses.  This has prompted me back to a TL2 for wide angles.

Of course, they are projected into the 28 mm view.

Wide angle lenses are less wide on the TL2...

Dispensing with the rangefinder an EVF-M would be more Q-like, if not in appearance, then in function.

This a mockup. It's not real. To get this it'll need to be a digital crop like the M11 already can do (as can the Q) with the VF2. You WON'T see out side the lens at the native focal length. Q functionality in an M body is what it will be, with out the flippy screen.

All the current images of the camera are renders (ie: made up).
