No idea but OVF cameras sans RF were pretty common at that time. My first one was an Agfa Silette in the 60s. The Super-Silette came with an RF later on.

Agfa Silette was my very first camera.  I also remember buying a rangefinder that clipped into the hotshoe.  Memories.

Mine was my first "real" camera after a box camera, an Agfa Click and and Agfa Clack.

The way i recall it, the M1 was an entry camera, less expensive than its sister M2, with only 2 framelines, 35 & 50, focal lengths less critical than 90mm as far as focusing. Otherwise the M1 was basically the same camera as the M2. As its instruction manual said then, « The LEICA M1 is identical in its construction and operation with the LEICA M2, except that it does not have a built-in rangefinder ».

Well, you may have a look at the numbers of M1 built and (perhaps) sold: according to the Leica Pocket Book 9442 + 208 (olive) M1 to approx 78.000 M2 and 225000 M3. So I‘d call the M3 - the most expensive one - the „standard“ or „entry“ model. You‘ll find the same pattern - though not as extreme - for the Leica Standard or Ic, If, Ig models compared to the „basic“ models III, IIIa, IIIc, IIIf, IIIg.

If you want to take lessons from Leica history (even if adan will castigate me) it‘s the rule: cheap doesn‘t sell. Make it more expensive and you‘ll sell more.

People expecting deals with the M11-V could well be disappointed then 😱 I would bet that it'll have the same price as the original M11 but it is pure speculation.

Just make a google-search "everyone is a photographer until m".

Yes, they are not difficult to find. Inspired by @pedaes picture, I googled the text and ordered this one. I am very satisfied, and have even received comments and thumbs up when people have seen me wearing it and my camera on the street. 😄

As much fun as the T-shirt truly is ... Considering you have an M11 and would want to have an EVF and assuming the M11-V came with some form of hybrid system that would still allow for RF-type use - would you rather buy the M11-V or a Visoflex?

No idea if the EVF-M (or M-V) will have anything hybrid, but the general consensus seems to be it won't have a rangefinder. So, if you like the rangefinder experience, you're better off buying a Visoflex 2 for your M11. Now, the M-V is expected to be released next October, rumors say, so i'd wait and see if i were you.

It's not going to be a hybrid. Too many compromises - both in physically manifesting it, and with the sales stream. Leica would love for the well heeled to buy one of each. And then trade in the M11-V for the M11-VP or even the M11-VD (how about that designation!) And then there's the M12 to consider, and on and on. No, I think Leica see this as either a companion body for somebody with the traditional rangefinder line, or a body unto itself for those that have always struggled with the rf concept or never wanted to go there in the first place.  For the occasional need for EVF, a Visoflex, or even just using the rear screen, is more than enough.

I would actually bet it's a hybrid, but one without an RF window. A purely digital VF would be too radical to carry the M heritage forward.

We'll find out soon enough.

So it will just be a Visoflex replacement?
