If they managed to get the CL right, and that is years ago, this one should be no problem.

I was just thinking about the cameras I have used and it struck me that the physical size of the eyepiece on an M is actually relatively small and probably something of a limiting factor.

I'm actually intrigued as to what the eye relief of an EVF-M could be. Is there sufficient room within the area of an M viewfinder to provide a great EVF within the existing confines of an M viewfinder and so that there is no external difference in comparison to current cameras?

Does the Fuji X100 give a clue to viability?

Not really. Like my Sonys it has quite a substantial and protruding rear viewfinder section. I did say it should look like existing M viewfinders, and simply because any added bulk will of course have detractors. Trying to maintain a viewfinder with good eye relief and the inevitably required adjustable dioptric correction, within existing dimensions might well be tricky. I'm not sure that a protruding viewfinder would be seen as 'M-like'😄.

Missing one EVF drawback here: in bright weather it slows you down. You’ll have to take your sunglasses off before you can see anything in the viewfinder which may cause you to miss that instant-reaction shot.  Street photographers?

Real street photographers do not wear sunglasses.  😊

For what it’s worth, just saw this on Leica Rumors:

Who pooh-poohs?  It is just a consideration. Some of use -like me- need to in overly bright light.

It might also depend on the actual display technology that would be used for the EVF. The viewing experience with OLED is usually not affected by polarized sunglasses (cf. the last generations of iPhones) whereas LCD is.

If it is affected, it is of course very annoying - the head-up display of my car is also invisible with polarized sunglasses.

There is zero reason for them to use the existing M eyepiece. I would assume it would be more along the lines of a Q or similar eyepiece, with a built in diopter. I would assume the body will be an entirely different cast from that of the M11, though retaining the same shape.

You oughta seen the IIIC!

SLRs came along and walked all over that limiting factor...

I prefer a comfortable EVF to a spartan OVF personally but as far as protruding parts are concerned, i don't see why Leica could not do as well or better than Fuji.

No idea why they bothered to blur this, it’s pretty obvious how they think it will look. If this is accurate then I don’t really like it, looks weird to me so plain. Maybe some adjustment time is needed, then again, I’ve never liked the look of the MD film cameras…

To be fair, I would also use a Sony if the end product was everything. Leica wouldn’t get a look in!

Exactly that.

It can be done ( I did it for years with an M) but if you want the results use the right tool.

Don`t bring a knife to a gunfight ,as the saying goes.

The first thing I would do if I had a camera like that would be to put a viewfinder window sticker on it. 😄

How much space does an EVF take up inside the camera? Wouldn’t it be better to have a “real” RF glass window on the frontside that only goes a few mm into the camera, with a black wall behind, and the EVF on the backside?

At least a much more elegant solution than a sticker. 😄

To those who want an EVF-M, I doubt that plain front will be a discouragement.

The first thing would be to add an external OVF🤣.

When travelling with two bodies, I could use M11V for lenses 28mm and wider, and M11 for lenses 35mm and longer.

That image does not represent the real M11V but is a placeholder.
