DadDadDaddyo Posted February 25 Share #821 Posted February 25 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yup, the original M4. My favorite of the analog Ms. I found it such an improvement over the M3 that I passed the M3 on to my son as his first Leica, and now have two original M4s, so one can be with me if the other needs to get service. Are we still on the idea of an electronic finder in the M? Once more, there might be times that'd be handy, but I've been using Leica rangefinders for a long time. I can switch between the M11, M11M, and M4 seamlessly, even reaching for the IIIC and IIIG that got handed down to me, when I feel like it. The same muscle memory applies. It's all as natural as driving with a clutch and a stick shift, downshifting to second gear then accelerating out of a curve. It's as easy as grabbing a full-width F major chord on the guitar with my thumb wrapping around to catch the low F on the E string. It's as easy and natural as finding the light switch in my darkened bedroom. It literally can't be made any easier. That's what's enabled by over a half a century of experience with quality, precision tools that feature consistent design. Why would I look elsewhere? I'm here to make photographs. The subject and me. The camera disappears. A guitarist friend of mine once commented to me that his goal was to get to the point he could play anything as easily as if he was whistling. Same applies to making the camera disappear. The next generation might look at the tools I used and wonder how I could possibly have gotten my results without Autofocus, without an electronic viewfinder, without Image Stabilization. I hope, if they happen across this archive someday, that they'll believe me when I say it was no problem, in fact, it was just great, consistently great, a learned level of comfort, sure, but all as natural and easy as breathing. I hope some of those future folks will reach back and give it a try. And see.

rramesh Posted February 25 Share #822 Posted February 25 There was a time when Montblanc, a German company made and sold pens, and pens only. Their brand was recognized as among the best manufacturers of writing instruments. Today they are a luxury goods company selling stationery, bags, wallets, luggage, watches, headphones, fragrances and possibly other products. At least, Leica has stayed somewhat true to their original business. As for me, I will just buy what I need, and right now I am sticking to a rangefinder camera. Smogg Posted February 25 Share #824 Posted February 25 In my opinion, the success or failure of the EVF-M depends entirely on how effectively Leica will be able to emulate a rangefinder or replace the focusing process with something else that is visually simple and fast, and applicable not only to open but also to closed apertures. The huge external screen is a big plus, but I would also like an EVF of the same quality as the SL3, since the external screen is of little use on a sunny day. IBIS is welcome, but its absence is not critical for me.

Might as well save yourself the grief now and and just buy something else by Nikon/Sigma/Sony with an EVF to put your lenses on...

lct Posted February 25 Share #830 Posted February 25 Assuming an EVF-M is to be launched, it would be neither a Q-no-mount 😉 nor an L-mount, but an M-mount camera in all aspects but the RF, i suspect, including the price. Just a guess. Those looking for more affordable adapted cameras might be interested by the Sigma FPL, which works fine with M lenses, or the announced Sigma BF eventually. Kolari mod Sony's work well too. Also Nikon's but i have no experience with them. FWIW.

Yes, I forgot about the watches and they are nice. I would quite like the Monochrome but it’s almost as expensive as the 75mm Noctilux 😳

I struggle to focus M lenses with just a screen so wouldn't buy the Sigma BF / Samsung S9 for that unless zone focussing [which could work well for the street]. Then again, may as well get the Ricoh GR [which is now looking very old and needs a refresh].

The Ricoh's EVF feels outdated compared to it. Only con of the Sigma is the electronic shutter although i use it to shoot moving subjects with no significant issues so far. The EVF of the Sigma is handy but ugly though TBH...
T25UFO Posted February 26 Share #834 Posted February 26 After just over two weeks, 43 pages and 843 posts, we have gone almost a whole day of the earth's rotation without a new post. Is this a record? Are we now losing interest in this (currently) fictional camera?
Photon42 Posted February 28 Share #835 Posted February 28 Not sure - but a lot of side topics have been covered, too ... I for one are interested in a good implementation of an EVF M. Good for me means that most things are taken from the M, except there is some nice and hopefully innovative way of focussing. I have no idea what I mean by that, so don't ask. But Leica: please surprise me in a positive way!
