They can be stuck in a position/ loop when the power source is connected even if the camera is switched off. By removing the battery for a long period, may force these components to fully discharge and work again. I assure you it is not a joke, but at the same time I cannot guarantee this will be a solution to your problem. I’m really sorry to read of your problem, horrible experience to have with a new camera, I genuinely hope either this or Leica resolves the issue. Thanks, that sounds like a quite reasonable solution. I have nothing that I can really do anyways so, I’ll give it a go!
Advertisement Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Hi JimmyCheng, Take a look here M11-D 'bc' issue even when fully charged.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted January 26 Share #22 Posted January 26 I understand that this is annoying and that you are upset. However electronic components can suffer from failure in any device. I fear that it is completely impossible to catch a fault that has not yet developed with QC. Ask your dealer to solve the issue. I don’t think that the update is at fault as we would have seen more complaints in the forum in that case.
T25UFO Posted January 26 Share #23 Posted January 26 As this is a brand new camera fresh out of the box, surely it should just be replaced?
M11 for me Posted January 26 Share #24 Posted January 26 (edited) vor 6 Minuten schrieb T25UFO: As this is a brand new camera fresh out of the box, surely it should just be replaced? That is probably true. I think that if it had happened to me I would have brought it back immediately. Edited January 26 by M11 for me
Derbyshire Man Posted January 26 Share #25 Posted January 26 I’ve had success with power issues by turning on and popping the battery out at sign of life, leaving out and re-inserting. If it doesn’t work for you exchange your camera and also report the issue to customer services. The have been reports of random ‘replacement battery’ warnings but these have been cleared with a half shutter press. Good luck.
T25UFO Posted January 26 Share #26 Posted January 26 So many different idea and everyone trying to be helpful, but this really shouldn't happen. It simply isn't acceptable to say these things happen. The truth is these things happen too many times to Leica cameras. If any electrical equipment stopped working minutes after opening the box, it would be rejected and replaced. There wouldn't even be a discussion. Why is Leica any different? Or are we all guilty to paying homage to a [so called] revered brand that doesn't deserve the respect it gets.
Tseg Posted January 27 Share #27 Posted January 27 Advertisement (gone after registration) It sucks the OP got a dud. I was recently reflecting how I was 3 weeks in since my last charge, have taken well over 1K snaps, and still have 35% battery life. When working properly, the durability of the battery in an M11-D is crazy good. Best wishes to OP on getting speedy resolution.
Steve Ash Posted January 27 Share #28 Posted January 27 Sorry to hear about your bad luck. I do not know your local laws. In Europe you can return your camera within 2 weeks without reasoning in case you bought via the internet and order another one. No need to hassle with any services. grahamc Posted January 31 Share #29 Posted January 31 I really hope you get a replacement and not hit with a “repair” wait - recent form suggests that Leica will try that. Agree with other posters that their approach is completely unacceptable

Agree with other posters that their approach is completely unacceptable I contacted Leica Germany, they pointed someone from US to conatact me. Their offer was "repair" instead of "replacement“ and a potential long wait time due to shipping back and forth between canada/us/germany. Luckily the shop where I bought it decided they would take it back and if they cannot address the issue should send me a replacement.

That's great of the store - what a shame about Leica Wetzlar's policies and attitudes. Unsurprising and really sad Edited February 1 by grahamc

But luckily your local shop has the honesty that Leica doesn’t have.

Jacobjuul Posted February 16 Share #36 Posted February 16 as you know Jimmy, my brand new M11-D also had to go back. They are now switching the main board. It's funny to me that they never offer a replacement/refund. The good news is that my local Leica store has excellent service and they've lend me an M11-P while I wait. Derbyshire Man Posted February 16 Share #37 Posted February 16 I can see why they don't want to replace. These are very expensive items. Clearly if it fails early, here in the UK I would (and have) demanded and received replacement. If slightly later then a loaner of a camera with similar abilities is reasonable. Considering original cost and repair times 'you'll get something back in 3-6 months' is not.

Leica consumers are a weak bunch, we put up with sub-standard products and sub-standard service. I bought a Dyson vacuum cleaner, it failed after three months and was immediately replaced with a new item. That is a top end product in its market, that is how top end manufacturers respond.
Photoworks Posted February 16 Share #39 Posted February 16 it is not as simple to replace, many of the product have serial numbers that are important to some Leica costumes. Leica will have to get your content before replacing it and giving you a new serial number.

Kirby and Meile are top end. Dyson is meh. Leica, like most other companies, has the option under warrant to repair or replace. A vacuum cleaner for the cost is nowhere near the cost of an M camera. I have heard of many of the defective ones getting replaced. Electronic items can fail. Get used to it.
