I would have considered a GH series body if it weren’t for the older Leica lenses. The SL2-S is a good compromise overall since I need reliable 4K recording and image stabilization. If you mean the non-Pocket BM 6K, I'm curious what you mean by the weird layout. The big plus of the body is the enormous touchscreen, which allows you to manage recording without touching almost any of the buttons, and avoids the need for a separate monitor/recorder. OTOH, it's not really a hybrid camera like the SL2-S - it can take stills, but with little control - it's best seen as a way of taking snapshot stills during video recording. (The feature that most irritates me is the lack of illumination on the buttons - I only use them for back-button focus and focus magnification for manual focusing, but I'm always pressing the wrong one in the dark.) I agree that it is not a real hybrid camera. Videos were convincing but I was not ready to get such a camera as I try to stick to a single body. Currently I use SL601 and I want complain about DR when I see my videos.

SL2S is plenty for most applications, low light and and Video, SL3 for some(!) professional uses. - but by no means all. That’s why I use both the SL2 and SL2S. I have not switched to the SL3 because (as far as I know) it doesn’t offer a multi shot/pixel shift mode. But if there’s a SL3S version with pixel shift at say 50 MP, I’m all in.

Printmaker Posted December 23, 2024 Share #67 Posted December 23, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) The pixel shift on the SL2 delivers an appropriate 240 mb file that has incredible detail, depth, and color. I use it to photograph the occasional painting for reproduction. When I had a studio dedicated to shooting art, my exposures on a 4x5 scan back lasted 15-20 minutes. With pixel shift I can get a better file in a matter of seconds. It also does an amazing job with sculpture, etc. I’m retired and only shoot for a few old friends but I can still give them something that looks great in a catalog or ad and can be printed wall size.
LocalHero1953 Posted December 24, 2024 Share #68 Posted December 24, 2024 If you believe this, the SL3-S is coming next month, in silver, and will have 30mp.

Well, it sort of makes sense. Half the mp of the SL3, that’s the same differentiator as the SL2 and SL2S. The silver finish was also popular on the previous model. The other comment, two limited run M cameras also seems a reasonable prediction. Perhaps one reason why the recent glossy paint model was only a regular M11, although it does seem as though Leica is milking the 11. Almost as many specials as the Lotus Elise 🤣
LocalHero1953 Posted December 24, 2024 Share #70 Posted December 24, 2024 I'm curious about a 30mp sensor. It doesn't appear among other brands. It could be a totally new one, or it could be a 33mp Sony variant.
jaapv Posted December 24, 2024 Share #71 Posted December 24, 2024 I'm also curious. For resolution the difference to 24 MP will be imperceptible.Of course, Leica does buy from smaller companies when the giants like Sony cannot (will not?) provide a sensor to Leica's specification.
Olaf_ZG Posted December 24, 2024 Share #72 Posted December 24, 2024 Nobody curious about the new SL lens? Having both SL2’s and the Q3, one reason for switching to one SL3s (plus Q) might be equal menus, so both SL and Q can be setup almost the same. Possibly a macro lens; I was told by a Leica representative that such a lens was in the workings. Personally, Sigma DG DN 105mm serves me very well (as long as you dont need a snappy AF lens), plus Panasonic 100mm macro for a very small/low weight/fast focusing macro lens. It could, of course, be that Leica is coming with their own macro, but a Sigma or Panasonic version is equally likely. LeicaRFan Posted December 25, 2024 Share #74 Posted December 25, 2024 (edited) I hope a Leica own APO Macro Elmarit SL 2,8 / 100 😉 . Edited December 25, 2024 by LeicaRFan
SrMi Posted December 25, 2024 Share #75 Posted December 25, 2024 A macro lens with focus bracketing update would be nice.
Cronilux Posted December 25, 2024 Share #76 Posted December 25, 2024 According to Leica Rumors, the SL3-S will be announced in January 16th. So my mid January guess was pretty good. https://leicarumors.com/2024/12/24/the-leica-sl3-s-camera-is-rumored-to-be-announced-on-january-16th-2025.aspx/
dsalamena Posted December 25, 2024 Share #77 Posted December 25, 2024 Isn’t the Apo Summicron 24mm still missing? One would suppose that this would be the next SL lens as it was included in the original roadmap
