Even though the M11-D hasn't been launched yet, it's too late to make any wishes, as it's already in production and probably just waiting for a firmware update.

But since we already have an idea of what to expect from the M11-D, what do you want from its future successor, the M12-D?

  • Fold-out thumb rest, yes or no?
  • How many megapixels?
  • What kind of metering (or none at all)?

Anything else?

Design wise, a black chrome Leica MA with a digital sensor would be nice. I like black paint too but the mp is a bit too shiny so if that could be reduced a bit then great.  I’d actually like the film advance lever to work the shutter for an even more organic experience. Low megapixel count is preferred, sub 30mp. No evf compatibility. ISO dial on the back. Built in memory, min 128gb. Closer focusing rangefinder would be amazing if physics allows for it. Instant or as close to start up and wake time.

I love the idea of no meter at all, although I realize that this is not very realistic. But I was actually a little surprised the other day when I discovered that there is a meter on my M10 and that the arrows in the viewfinder show the exposure. 😅 (Of course, I knew that, but I hadn't looked at it for a long time and had almost forgotten it existed.) I'm sure the subtle sound of such a shutter would be fantastic.

Near instant start-up and wake-up time.

24-36 very good megapixels is all I need, along with the best possible dynamic range.

I also like the M10-D thumb rest and find it both very nice and useful.

ISO dial on the back is great, and in line with the analog models.

It would be great if the camera could be used completely independently of other devices.

Simplicity is the key word!

  • Silver chrome brass top
  • The return of the fake lever, yeah!
  • Monochrome sensor on demand
  • ISO dial like the M2 film counter (or exposure compensation, not sure)

I would instantly sell all my digital Ms and would live happily ever after.
For color I would use the SL4. 😎

A camera that doesn't randomly over expose.  A camera that works as it should.

That's why it shouldn't have a meter. Then you only have yourself to blame. 😉

Forwarding lever instead of just u stupid thumb rest,

Internal stabilisation,

Internal focusling as in the CONTAX AX preserving the gorgeous M lenses as small as they are,

Touch screen, as with omitting all the buttons as much as possible, but also by increasing the size of the touch screen as much as possible,

electronic viewfinder with gorgeous RED indications in the screen9LEICA RED Color as in the MP 240.

This thread is about the next D-model, the models without screen.

Maybe a M5 style shutter dial with the shutterspeed visible in the viewfinder. An Olympus OM3/OM4 type of spotmeter. 36 Mega pixels would do, for me and i never felt the need for an advanced sort of thumbrest.
