but then after a few seconds (20?) the light stopped flashing, and the camera turned on again normally

Thanks for trying it out!  And Elmars too.

I started a timer when I selected to format the SD card.  After 2 minutes the wheel was still spinning and I decided to turn the camera off.  At 3 minutes and 3 seconds, so about one minute after turning the camera off, the blinking red light stopped.  I turned the camera on and it functioned normally.

I know that formatting the card is the moment when a freeze matters the least, but I hope that this issue is somehow related to a rootcause for other freezes and can help in finding it.

Thanks

I just returned from a trip and managed to take around 2k images in a week. The camera behaved perfectly, well, almost perfectly. Once, while using live view with the level indicator, the camera became unresponsive. and I had to turn it off and on again. There was no need to take the battery out.

I would say that my M11 is working great now. Before the latest upgrade, it was working okay, fine, just a few occasional freezes—very few—but now with the new one, I can say I am a happy M11 user, with no complaints!

Not yet, but I will before long. I want to see if it’s truly stable with the hybrid shutter first.

Reporting back after using the electronic shutter in both single shot and high speed drive modes. I haven’t had any freezes. What I can tell you, though, is the electronic shutter is entirely unsuitable for anything but the steadiest hands or tripod. In any given series of 10-15 shots in high speed drive mode, every third or so shot would be slightly warped due to rolling shutter. This is with me holding the camera rather loosely with one hand. Normally I might not realize an image was warped, but since high speed drive mode gives me so many shots of the exact same scene, it’s easy to see the images that get warped by flipping through them quickly on the rear LCD.

Thanks for taking a look. Yes, you can really see the effects of rolling shutter when shooting handheld. I normally use a tripod and often shoot longer exposures, so there are not many RS artifacts in that use case.

My problems are likely tied to my profiles, as I didn't recreate them after either of the last two firmware updates. I will do a full reset and rebuild the profiles just to see if that helps alleviate the problems I'm seeing.

You could first try exporting them to SD card - then resetting the camera and then re-importing the profiles, it’ll be much quicker and is a decent first stage

I seems that they`ve had difficulties with a lot of their digital models beginning with the M8.

Fortunately I have a 246 a CL and SL2s which have all been trouble free.

Its certainly not exactly an encouraging situation.

Thank you. I figured it would be better to get a fresh start. I went ahead and wiped everything, even the Fotos connection. I rebuilt the two profiles I use the most and everything seems much better. No more issues with the electronic shutter and no freezes after a few hundred test shots. I will keep testing and relate any further issues, if they pop up.

Germans are good at mechanicals and bad at electronical.

You want good electronical? go with Japanese.

The issue seems to be software, not electronics.

Just a small update from me: since the freezing does not stop, I decided to send it to MPB today. This decision came after I secured a pair of M10 and M10D last week. At least now I am confident that there won’t be any freezing situation. The problem for me was that when I went out with the M11, I was always in fear that it would freeze on me out of nowhere, so I couldn’t really enjoy the moment with it.

Mental note, don't buy the next m11 to appear on MPB?

I don't know why you were having so much trouble!

LOL, there are 6-7 M11s there right now. I didn’t have many freezes at the beginning (maybe 2-3 times, and I never used an SD card with it), but for some reason, after the latest firmware update, I have encountered so many. The first day that I went out with it, it froze 4-5 times. I did a hard reset and created a new profile instead of importing the old ones, but it still freezes almost every other day.

I come to believe that there is something wrong with the hardware not only software. I sold my m11 after so many freezes but bought again the m11p when hearing the firmware update fixed it.

My m11p came with 2.0 fw and no issue at all. I still upgraded to 2.1 and it has been operating smoothly since.

I was in Wetzlar today and had a long talk. It is not the hardware but the firmware and they take further effort in eliminating the remaining causes for freezes. The constant freezing that some have seen seems to have been eliminated. Let's hope so.
